OBR: "The cumulative cost of freezing fuel duty rates [since 2010-11]…has risen to £139bn." "[I]f fuel duty were to remain frozen until 2029-30, public sector net borrowing would be £4.3bn higher."

Already not going well on bin strike day. Wylie fox took advantage of everyone putting stuff out early and now the street is littered with food waste. Sure the scab crews will enjoy that.

One thing that has changed is when the junction is busy. For most of its existence, the peak flow was Londoners travelling to seaside resorts over bank holiday weekends. But now it is commuters and school run. If only there was something we could do about that.

Interesting. My perception is the UK response to data centres is a fraction of the intensity found in the US.

The utterly sociopathic entitlement of these tech freaks. Nvidia, Microsoft and Cisco has given the UK government a 12 month deadline to quash public outrage over data centres, or they will... flounce off with their debt? Go on, then. Off you fuck. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Excellent news! One of those things that has been easy to ask for, but doubtless takes a while to get the right plumbing behind the scenes.

Travelling in London can be complex, and even more so if you're dependent on having access to toilets along the way. We've made it easier to find in TfL Go - tap on any station on the map, and if toilets are there, tap the new 'Toilet facilities' button for detailed info.

But what about the sky? Didn't it fall? Every time a street is pedestrianised the same predictions of doom are made.

In more, hot off the press, high street pedestrianisation in London news... 🥳 'In May 2025, Camden launched a trial pedestrianisation of part of Camden High Street to create a safer, healthier space. Following consultation, the changes trialled are now permanent.' news.camden.gov.uk/pedestrianis...

A bus. And yet it takes decades to talk about. Endless reports and consultations. A bus.

Hertfordshire County Council is consulting on plans for an east-west rapid transit network linking Hertfordshire and Essex. Electric ̶t̶r̶a̶c̶k̶l̶e̶s̶s̶ ̶t̶r̶a̶m̶s̶ (buses) are the preferred option. Have your say and help shape future transport plans before the consultation closes on 4 December. Link below ⤵️

Kiss of death the moment anything gets called a "rapid transit". Means years of playing Let's Pretend we are going to build a tram or metro. Then more years convincing ourselves a bus was what we really wanted all along.

Reform plan to bring back imperial measurements to help boost US trade, not realising that US imperial measurements are different from UK ones. So dense a black hole is empty space by comparison.

Very nicely done too.

Very happy to see that Bluesky has finally added profile links! It's great when people can easily link to the web :) Definitely some inspiration taken from Mastodon here 👀

Good. But how long it takes to get anything done in this country. Ten years to close a road to traffic.

I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.
