Need a beyond senior design-engineer + design-director + lead front + back-end developer that can jump into any part of your product, and design and build new features end-to-end? Will soon be open for FT, PT, or freelance work. (would really appreciate reposting for reach) ( ^_^)/

Nice things are possible pketh.org/organic-soft...

pketh.orgIn Search of Organic SoftwareSo over the last couple weeks, I’ve been talking to VCs and founders who have and haven’t taken VC to learn whether it makes sense for Kinopio. I don’t think it does.

is this a good way to develop software? no. are the good ways crowded out by all the investment money subsidising bad ways? yeah, pretty much. good design, good products, they're accidental byproducts of the wheel of capital. i can't escape it, but i'm not above picking at the scraps it throws off

Let’s learn something this time. Don’t switch to another VC or private equity funded app with no published business model. The era of “trust us bro, we’ll figure it out later is dead”

This post is unavailable.

At this point, the SaaS DEapocolpse is that where just having an app on the internet where someone actually understands the security code and can continually patch newfound holes and keep dependencies up to date for more than a week becomes a rare and valuable thing.

first impressions were I thought/was-hoping this was a new badass pc case inspired by the x68

one day I'll write a blog post about choosing tools you can both trust and enjoy

Interesting how the people who used to say that 'software engineer' devalued the word 'engineer', don't have much to say about the rise of 'financial engineering'. You'd think associating 'engineering' with exploiting crime-adjacent loopholes and scams would be a bigger deal.

looking forward to code reviewing and shipping the Kinopio performance improvements to zooming and scrolling I'm working on. They're especially noticeable on safari mac and iOS

The side-benefit of promoting new features using screencaptures with no editing is that if something doesn't work smoothly enough to demo then I'm compelled to fix it for real, rather than hide the seams with fancy video editing tricks

Are you distrustful by default of trying new web software because you've been burned by tools you rely on getting sunset or enshittifying?

A friendly reminder that your personal Life Tasks space only has to make sense to you

☎️ would anyone be interested in testing out a special wip kinopio desktop macOS app that uses half the memory? If so let me know~

Found this online and couldn't not share it. Companies never needed AI to make software development miserable, the pain was inside them all along.

Even though I fall into the trap sometimes , I think it’s a bad idea to generalize whole generations. Like all “gen-z kids are lonely and only live in their phones” , but I see teens working at restaurants and stores both talking to and rizzing up their coworkers all the time

in the kinopio blog header I wanted to mention that all the articles are completely written by a person (me) with zero AI. So I added the phrase 'Completely hand-written'. to the blurb. Does that convey the idea, or should I be more explicit? suggestions?

My philosophy is that if the author didn't bother to write it, I don't want to bother to read it.

My medium-length travel setup. For when the trip is too short to justify packing a monitor – but also too long to suffer a laptop-only life.

Congrats to neal.fun for winning the tiny web awards with Cursor Camp. As a bonus, open the browser console and inspect WS traffic for a nice peek at how the real time collaboration and syncing is set up tinyawards.net/2026/

I’m looking to find and share your favorite web apps that are: - >= 1yr old - Commercial or donation-ware - high quality and craft - non-vc organic software

Just like I did with my personal blog, adding a little email newsletter sign up to the Kinopio blog so you don't have to rely on social media to know when there's something new to read

oh damn, this aged like a fine wine faster than I thought it would

How sick would it be if Canada joined the EU? We could take the UKs spot

particularly fond of this CTA. Figured I'd lean into the kind of things VC funded companies can't say/do

Meanwhile in the real world, I think I’m going to downgrade from my partly broken iPhone 17 back to my partly broken iPhone mini. It’s not any slower and I’m sick of carrying big phones.

Few things in life are as depressing as working hard on something and having it fail. I get why people find the idea of generating results so easy that you don't care if they fail is so popular. But nothing good was ever created from fear.

new trek isn't dumber and less dialog oriented than 90s star trek because gen z have no attention spans and can't follow plots without colorful laser explosions – it's that way because the show's creators look down on their audience

This is the god damned dream

Your only career goal should be "How do I get a cool job where I'm just making a cool thing with cool people?"

Responding to an offer to "scale my personal brand": > Social media isn't how I reach people these days (that'd be blogging, newsletters, and community stuff). I also don't engage enough on social media because i find it an emotional and productivity drain on my day

I'm tired of receiving security bug bounty emails that are 99% generated by LLMs, so I'm formalizing the Kinopio bug bounty program and setting the value of rewards low to reflect the low effort behind them. Long gone is the era when reporting was high value, high effort, and prestige for the finder

Tried out @aphera.co on the mac as a lightroom/photomator alternative, I really like it and I'd recommend it if your needs/perspective is like mine:
