Gov's new 'low cost' loans for green tech is out. Devil is really in what happens to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). If this is additional to the existing level then fine, if its an inferior safety net for a gutted BUS grant its really not. We won't have to wait long to find out.

It is, today, not the 13th anniversary of the publication of Steven Morrissey’s autobiography (it had been out for ten days) but something much better: the 13th anniversary of the Sunday Times publishing A. A. Gill’s merciless mauling of it—a review which went on to win Hatchet Job of the Year

This is absolutely fabulous. Lovely set of stories and photos. @punkrockhistory.bsky.social

Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It’s thanks to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme that tens of thousands of homes across the UK have been able to move away from gas. This programme is working, and we must continue to back it.

Feels like there is a huge amount behind this story, but.. Live in carer is a 24/7 role. Put your own life on hold and also stress, disturbance, and general wearing down for the carer. Those not involved just don't get this. Siblings should be praising their sister. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Reform plan to bring back imperial measurements to help boost US trade, not realising that US imperial measurements are different from UK ones. So dense a black hole is empty space by comparison.

Is this click bait for a fading bunch of cretins, or do they really think that it's a vote winner for those that were taught feet, yards, acres, Fahrenheit, and fluid ounces..... I was born at end of 60's, was never taught anything but metric. Out of touch....

Just five years after mountain hares gained full legal protection, a new exemption allows them to be hunted and killed for falconry. These native animals now face being killed for falconers' entertainment, while captive birds of prey are exploited to hunt them. A shameful step backwards.

How did the grid react as Storm Austen and Storm Boelo passed through over the weekend? I pulled this together over the weekend. It's part of a new video format that I'm exploring to better explain what's going on within the energy system and the wider context surrounding it (such as the weather).

Something in both my eyes.....

Dr Asif Hasan was born in Pakistan. He is a cardiac surgeon who spearheaded critical breakthroughs in paediatric care. If you're a racist rural Albertan, reflect on whether you deserve to be treated better than this immigrant because of your lofty contributions to the community.

Thankfully I never experienced this, as although I was the primary carer due to living close by to my dad, my sister came up every month for a week to ease the workload. Being cared for by a member of your family makes those final years a happier time, despite some very trying times.

Since his ennoblement in Boris Johnson’s 2023 resignation list, Tees Valley regional mayor Lord (Ben) Houchen has claimed more than £25,000 in tax-free daily “attendance” allowances from the House of Lords for 73 days when he hasn’t voted, spoken or performed any recorded parliamentary activity.

Google photos has just reminded me that 16 years ago we were on honeymoon, and travelling down from Petra to Aqaba, where Jordan, Israel, Egypt and Saudi effective converge..... Don't think we would choose that today.

Recovery of gas network costs during the transition: Consumers who have never had gas or left it for environmental reason are going to regard 2 in particular - potentially 3+4 depending on detail - as a low blow.

David Watson@davidawatson.bsky.social

1️⃣ continued recovery from consumers 2️⃣ recovery from a broader group of energy users, e.g. including electricity customers 3️⃣ government-backed mechanisms 4️⃣ some hybrid of these options

High streets are an important part of modern Britain. It's where afternoon drinkers go to get interviewed by news reporters for their views about immigration.

James Ball@jamesrball.com

The British syndrome, summarised: 78% of us say our high streets are important to us. But only 28% of us actually use their local high street even once a week – and only 53% of people said they used theirs *once a month*. We won't use it, and we won't lose it.

🧵 Wow - this article is bordering on unhinged! Apparently the BBC is akin to a “North Korean re-education camp” for teaching children about net-zero and covering both the pros AND cons of immigration Join me for a masterclass in cherry-picking and context stripping to brainwash your own readers👍🏻

In my opinion closing the AM network is very shortsighted. A small number of AM transmitters covers most of the country. DAB coverage is pretty thin: on any car journey there are many miles when I have to switch to AM to listen to 5Live. (2/3)

Seems that some people can get to pay to go to the best British educational establishments, but learn absolutely nothing of an any value. J, Webb: Sidcot School (approx £5,000 /term) LSE Sidcot a Quaker School. Quaker values Simplicity, True Equality, Peace.....

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

NEW BRIGHT SPOTS: Even on 100% gas power, heat pumps cut emissions by ~48% and EVs by about half. The authors of an “electrification doesn’t cut emissions” paper made a series of compounding mistakes and used misleading assumptions. Here's why. janrosenow.substack.com/p/heat-pumps...
