"arabs have contributed nothing to the arts and sciences" is such a funny fucking thing for a bog ape wearing a little suit to say

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

Basically the whole foreign policy team needs to be purged and many of them need to be locked up. It leaves us with a somewhat thin bench, but fortunately we can raid the stock of laid-off international aid and development staffers.

Brazilians beat back fascism by... voting harder? Organized offline and online around an election, using a mix of strategies aimed at both turnout and persuasion. Showed up in large numbers, and despite some very wealthy interests arrayed against them, succeeded? Huh. Pretty neat how that works.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

What I’m getting here is that the two flavors of coalitions are “we hate Palestinians and love the ultra Orthodox” vs. “we hate Palestinians and also the ultra Orthodox”

And all with likely record CIA interference, not to mention the security agencies of other South American nations which have swung back to the far right.

This isn’t going to be a thing. There’s not going to be individual citizens who have a veto on national security. People seem to be forgetting who the State is here exactly.

I enjoy a wild theory but Vance just straight-up hates women - HATES them - and is a guy so steeped in MAGA and Thiel nonsense he doesn't have any read on how this would play outside of those groups.

here’s my matt yglesias take- i do not trust the analysis of anyone who is unwilling to state what they actually believe but instead pretends like they are only providing objective insights. thats not possible and it means your biases are seeping in everywhere

Yes, that was it. The plan was for all this to be popular, because the only reason it looked otherwise is radical leftists took over all institutions and forced wokeness down people's throats. Much like the plan was for white Minnesotans to greet ICE as liberators. It... It did not work.

I did the math on my rough chances of getting a tenure-track job in my field of history in 2013. Best case, it was about 6 percent, so I essentially gave up on academia and pursued other things. Writing MMA articles for a couple grand a month was a wildly more promising career path.

Humanities dissertations have fallen by 49 percent since 2015, compared with a drop of 4.5 percent in the social sciences, according to a new analysis of nearly 445,000 dissertations in these two fields over 65 years. Explore the data: https://chroni.cl/4yxUZ4S

Maybe it makes me a credentialist, but I hate how we constantly elevate guys like Yglesias — who have no relevant education or work experience. In politics, he's never run for office, worked on a campaign or served as an appointee. On policy, he has a BA and has never worked in government.

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

Before I was openly queer, classmates told me I was going to hell because I didn't feel comfortable saying that God hated the sin of homosexuality. Going to hell for being an (obviously bad) ally!!!! That was a real "ok these people can't stop, it's an addiction to cruelty" experience for me

I will say again: The divide in the Jewish community is not between Zionists and anti-Zionists, it's between people who view the Occupation as an unacceptable moral atrocity and these who view it as an inconvenience to be managed.
