I found a very good Canadian-made soup and hearty bowl brand. I’ve only tried the chicken chili, but it was good. They were also the least expensive brand in that category at Costco, Allen Family. www.allenfamilyfoods.ca/products

So BC, one of MANY problems with voting for an interim leader who you’re thinking seems “more reasonable” than the rest of their obviously extremist party, is that the extremist party WILL pick a REAL leader AFTER you’ve given them power and can pick their worst extremist option anytime they want.
Reminder: even though the election is tomorrow, the BC Conservatives do not have a permanent leader. The Cons never voted for Doerkson, and now they want BC to. Doerkson may appear moderate, but don't forget the party voted for Kerry Lynn-Findley, not him. #bcpoli #bcelection

They're coming for school flags and standardized report cards. What's next, standard uniforms and UCP salutes? They better make sure every school is staffed and equipped to the same standard then. And the abject lie that anti-discrimination hiring practices are discrimination against white people.
After Malcolm Lavoie is appointed as a UCP celebrated judge, look who the next yes (wo)men are… this is doidge, maga legislation continued.Civil servants, you have a choice. Especially lawyers. You can be tools of this fascist agenda. They can’t do this without lawyers. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Danielle Smith to disgruntled separatists, federalists: Thanks everyone, let’s move on! albertapolitics.ca/2026/10/dani...
Intergenerational family programming, guy who just thinks in catch phrases and racist imagery, father and his little boy wearing US clothing, immigrants who want to pull up the drawbridge to others now that they’re across it:
“Alberta will never be independent as long as Danielle Smith remains premier of the province of Alberta."

“There were also reports of polling stations running out of ballots in Maskwacis, comprised of four First Nations south of Edmonton. In an email to CBC News, Elections Alberta said it was seeing strong turnout at that location and has couriers delivering ballots.”
“More than 100 polling stations failed to open on time for referendum voting Monday, which means those stations will stay open late and results will be delayed.” #AlbertaReferendum www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I just voted in the referendum today, and I've been thinking about what we can do to help after the tragedy at CFB Wainwright. If you're able, please step up and donate blood or plasma. www.blood.ca
I’m on p. 183 (of 202) and I endorse this review. More discursive than Timothy Snyder’s advice and list of to-dos in On Tyranny, Lennox’s perspective as a former security and intelligence officer illuminates that this referendum is much more than an expensive 10-question quiz and racist wishlist.

Don’t bypass this short thread: #Wainwright
Military sources had told Global News a live-fire exercise at CFB Wainwright hit a gas line or well. Wainwright has 284 wells inside the base. CFB Suffield, where the Army is ramping up training, has 11,332. Soldiers train on top of Alberta’s well field. This is Alberta y’all. Map from AER data:

I think cbc and other journalists should refrain from calling the AB separatists “independence supporters.” Courting US annexation is NOT independence but DEpendence and tyranny.
Maple MAGAts didn't have enough of their own idiots available, so they had to import Sean Strickland for their rally. #ableg #abpoli www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Snagovsky’s observation re “what happens next” is potentially really scary. These are generally small men who finally have important people paying attention to them; they won’t give that up easily, and someone with ill intent will find them, gather them together, and wind them up again.
“…many in the separatist movement were activated politically by COVID-19 and vaccination policies….Most supported the Freedom Convoy, later they were animated by the issue of trans students and now by Alberta independence.” Can we now divert that energy to protesting AI data centres?
A few months ago Michael Wernick posed an interesting question to me: if the Alberta separation referendum fails as expected - what then? It’s not like all that energy will evaporate, so what does everyone do next? Here’s an attempt to answer that. www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/opi...
Time to dress up and flip pancakes on behalf of US wine merchants..
My first stop was Alberta, the only province not boycotting Californian wines. I spoke to provincial leaders about the importance of the Canadian market to California farmers and the importance of continuing close collaboration on dairy, beef and energy trade.
Attn Alberta NDP. We can’t afford to control support the status quo along any dimension—financially, politically, culturally, socially, individually.
Excellent piece, and ends with a quote from John Kenneth Galbraith: “People of privilege will always risk their complete destruction rather than surrender any material part of their advantage.” Sums up a lot of what @astra.bsky.social have been writing about in ETF... www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/o...
