Pro-Europeans really need to get their act together if they're going to sieze the opportunity which is being presented here. Press and broadcasters reverting right back to their previous position from 2016, with zero update.

What is the BBC's justification for maintaining this level of coverage of Reform now it has slipped into third place?

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

If you read only one thing about the recent protests here in France. Exemplary journalism that sticks to facts, avoiding inflammatory invective or characterisation.

‘It is unusual to see this level of unrest so close to elections. Very few of these young people – not even Benoît, who already sounds like a party leader – will be able to vote.’ Daniella Shreir on the protests in France, online early from the next issue. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Private rents have increased by almost a quarter since Local Housing Allowance rates were frozen. Resolution Foundation find that the gap between rents and the support available is close to a record high. The freeze is mounting pressure on struggling renters.

For 10 weeks, we asked five AI chatbots the same questions every day. None repeated the core misinformation they were tested on, but they reported proposals as law, quoted outdated figures and gave different answers on different days. Our first report: fullfact.org/ai-benchmark...

Poll reveals that 50% of young Britons would never fight for UK under any circumstances. Cue meltdown on talk radio stations and X. Well at least that's down on the 60% who said the exact same in an Oxford Union debate in 1933. Because... guess what kids... people don't want to fight in wars.

1) Same 2) Zoe is the first person I've seen refer to it as an incest comment rather than "sexism". But that was my instant reaction too. He's not just degrading her and being creepy, he's joking about a scenario of incestuous child abuse. That's not "banter", and it's not normal

The crisis at Royal Mail is completely man-made. Let's take it back into public ownership and reinvest parcel profits into hiring staff to deliver letters It would cost just 0.1% of the UK national debt to buy back Royal Mail

This is now one of many such horrific cases in the UK. They receive a fraction of the coverage of the Pelicot case, maybe because it's harder for the UK media to frame and dismiss this as a problem of "French culture" rather than rape culture generally www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

I've reposted this once before but it needs a wide audience. We don't need another #Brexit style battle but a reasoned approach that aims for - as much as possible- consensus.

I wrote a thing - please read it. This is how Burnham could craft a wholesome, structured conversation on our relationship with Europe, in a manner which gets us well away from the divisiveness of 2016.

Whatever the truth of the Musk/Trump theatricals over Starlink, we should pause to think about the fact that key defence systems are controlled by a psychopathic megalomaniac and a white-supremacist egomaniac.
