The #BSGOTYs2026 2000 nominations are now closed, and these are the results. Gonna take a break and probably start the 2001 nominations tomorrow

Alex Kendellen has struggled to deliver on his early promise for much of the first few years of his career, but these last few games he's been excellent. Scoring a try an hour so far to go with an exceptional defensive workrate. From an Irish perspective, would love to see that continue.

Munster tackle count was through the roof on Saturday, with van der Merwe and Kendellen (who've both had really impressive starts to the season) making 20+. Beirne was a machine as usual. Thought Charlie O'Shea looked really impressive again.

Obviously even by Munster standards they're missing an absurd number of players through injury for this stage of the season, and that's impacting their bench late on in games.

Munster were all over us in the first half on Saturday and we were lucky to get away with the win, but they're basically having the opposite problem to Ulster this season: starting games very strong then fading away. The Bulls game is the only one where they've outscored an opponent in the 2nd half.

It would be good if life my own country was not significantly impacted by the GOP vs Dem margins in small counties named after prominent Confederates but unfortunately it is

This feels like an article that shouldn't have made it past the pitch stage.

The chancellor resembles a hapless coach at a football club whose megalomaniac chairman picks the team each week. How long can this “bald fraud” prosper? bit.ly/4icXOm1 Illustration: Nate Kitch

Like yes, I get that it's a football joke to tie in with the whole hapless manager metaphor, but I just think it's a bad look for the Economist to be calling someone a bald fraud.

Orban : defeated Vučić : defeated Bolsonaro : defeated ...all this makes me hopeful that the international march of the far right is not so irresistible after all.

I will watch quite literally every clip of this show I find on my timeline.

Turnstile at the Washington Monument today, a benefit show raising money for humanitarian aid in Palestine, Sudan, and Lebanon

A bleakly fascinating thing about Linehan's transphobia also being the bigotry of choice of so many media figures is that, as a result, much of their reporting on what he says fails to mention all of the other things he's become increasingly insane about.

The Author, Séamas O'Reilly@seamas.bsky.social

This is not a "you didn't KNOW?" post because I truly envy and respect anyone unaware of Linehan's output BUT he's been EXTREMELY racist for years now. Attacking black actors on his wife's show Motherland as diversity hires; podcast screeds about muslims in Ireland; delighting in Palestinian deaths.

bsky.app/profile/hugo... Basically this, but throw in the fact that he's increasingly spouting American far-right talking points on race as well.

Graham Linehan as portrayed in much press reporting: a well-loved comedy writer who has been cancelled for wanting to protect women's sport. Linehan in real life: a guy whose obsession with hating and harrassing trans people led to his marriage disintegrating.

The thing about the cop in this article (which is great) is that while he seems to occasionally feel a bit guilty, mainly he just doesn't like the consequences of people hating him for it. He keeps talking about how he's a good guy really. And he keeps cashing his checks for breaking up families.

A reminder that every authoritarian regime relies on an army of functionaries to do their dirty work. Some of these will be true believers. But most will be people who tell themselves they're just following orders, particularly if they're benefiting materially from the process.

This cop says he's just doing out his job selling out his neighbours. But he could stop any time he wants. He wouldn't even lose his job. But the system tells him to do it and it pays him to do it. So he'll do it.

One of the weird quirks about being in Greece is you see shamrocks graffitied EVERYWHERE, but it's nothing to do with Ireland, it's the logo for Panathinaikos.

Love seeing a "the acts I personally like should be headlining big festivals and not the big acts that are" post. Season's started already

Now considerably more sober (albeit still a Leinster fan), and having rewatched what admittedly limited replays there were, I still think the ref made the right call here.

Hugo Gordon@hugogordon.bsky.social

Some controversy over whether Porter knocked on in the build-up to our second try. With the admittedly fairly heavy caveats of being a Leinster fan AND that I've had more than a few drinks, I thought it spilled backwards out of his hands.

From my view, Porter is over the line but high, with a Munster player underneath him and no way of grounding. To avoid being held up, he sort of chicken wings the ball back, with the ball popping out from under his chest. It goes back first and spins to the side, hitting the corner of the post.

So absent clearer footage (and I do think Munster fans are right that more replays were probably called for) I do think it's gone backwards from Porter.

No idea if the Coombes allegation is true, and if it is then fair play, whoever did it deserves a ban. Worth saying however that the screenshot going round that people are claiming as proof is of a completely separate clear-out on, I think, Nankivell that Munster have not complained about.

Getting out of that with 5 points feels like a bit of a heist, though we were undeniably much much better in the second half. Munster deserved their LBP so I'm not too mad about them getting it at the death. #LEIvMUN

Much to ponder, but can't complain about the result. Good to see Joey Carbery back in blue, even if in all fairness to him he looked very much like a man starting his first match since January. #LEIvMUN

Can imagine it's been a frustrating few weeks in the URC for Munster fans. First team looks legitimately very strong but games keep slipping away from them in the second half. Depth issues and injuries still causing problems. #LEIvMUN
