Bryan Johnson has the name of an 80s footballer, does that make it on to the list or does it have to be worse than that

Finally, a newsletter I want to sign up to!

My favourite thing like this was the time on a forum for the band [redacted] in about 2000 when somebody posted that he was going to use his experience of the forum and associated chat room for a story all about it called Caught In The Net

Love seeing a "the acts I personally like should be headlining big festivals and not the big acts that are" post. Season's started already

I saw another one too, the sister version this time, "these are shit headliners, they should have real legends like (acts who are not active, too expensive, or nearly dead)

Yes perhaps the ideal band to have at your festival would be all of Fleetwood Mac, somehow alive! You could go further and try to get the Beatles playing Revolver in full! But unfortunately you're stuck with active festival-friendly acts who don't think they're bigger than the event itself

I looked up this article because I think we need to start taking names of the people who take money to write this stuff. Lorna Hughes

Another one here where the British press just smashed fuck out of a member of the public’s life for no good reason, just because they wanted to and nobody will stop them doing at. And they’re still going, even now.

The one I just read was basically "why aren't Gurriers and Wunderhorse headlining Glastonbury instead of Harry Styles and Sam Fender", I mean it's pretty clear why isn't it, that's not a question you need to ask

I would be more likely to go to the Isle of Wight festival if the headliners were Shovel Dance Collective and not Robbie Williams but that's not how it works

I remember reading a review of Fudge by Michael Kiwanuka over a year ago, thinking it sounded like something I was after and looking forward to it, and it just vanishing from the schedules. We know why now, but I'm happy that it's out there now, it's good stuff, really hope he gets to do this again

I saw him at that Cross The Tracks thing two or three months before he was ill, he seemed to be on great form, I'd caught him at festivals a couple of times before (first one because it was a quagmire Glastonbury and I couldn't bear to move) but that one was where you thought he was nailing it

Fudge actually isn't the record I thought it was going to be - I read it being talked up like it was this really loose weird funky album and it's definitely not that

Like it died off as a kind of mainstream craze, Rod Stewart didn't keep trying to make disco records, but that's nowhere near the same thing

I suppose I'm applying a broad definition and you could say "well this record in 1980 was deep synth boogie" or whatever but you know, it's basically disco evolving into something else, which it wouldn't have been able to do if it had been killed

Actually I've seen a comment that's sparked me off, something like "it's funny how you were having big disco hits in 1984 after it died", a) this isn't disco is it but b) this is the thing, disco didn't die, just like punk didn't wipe out everything in 1976. It's made up

The standard of ready-to-cook pizza. When I was a kid you'd be delighted with a Findus french bread pizza

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Toilet roll! Remember that stuff your nan always had in that was not even remotely absorbent. Like wiping your bottom with greaseproof paper

Got an idea for a TV programme. It's called Celebrity Show - basically the idea is you get a group of celebrities in to do a sort of long form elimination game show, like Traitors or I'm A Celebrity or whatever, but they don't know what the concept will be and it changes every series

So nobody who goes on it has anything else to go by, they don't have a plan other than to take part in whatever the fuck competition they're about to spend their time trying to win, and therefore it doesn't go stale

I've probably got more than three days' worth of certain foods due to my "it was cheap, I enjoyed the snack, let's keep buying that food over and over" habit. There is probably only so much nutritional value in vegetable fingers though

I imagine putting together Celebrity Traitors to tell some dramatic story to be a bit like doing it with footage of meerkats for Meerkat Manor. Not sure if much is really happening in reality. Just celebrities hanging around hoping they stay on TV for a while

Thinking about how when I was a kid we knew a family called Bond and their kids were all called things like Chris* and Becky* and Andy* and none of them were called fucking James! *not their real names but more or less their real names

This post is unavailable.

I get the need to avoid giving your kid the same name as a well known person, you do want to avoid that if possible, but why not make at least one of your cursed sons James Bond?

New Avalanches album is very good imo, I already liked the "old consumer technology, how in awe of it when you were a kid, and the way it was sold to you, takes up a big chunk of your memory now" idea but the whole thing is a fun listen

The thing is that it's sent me back to their other records, although a discovery is that Since I Left You, an album I listened to at least a hundred times in 2001, is actually better than I thought it was! Because I was listening to a CD on a crap player I bought in Index! So much for old technology

I don't think they've done a record less than very good tbh. Wildflower got unfair stick at the time because it took forever to come out and it isn't Since I Left You, not on the same level but a great autumnal walk record if it ever stops raining

I wonder if there's been a professional footballer who hasn't made their full name public for whatever personal reason? Like you've made a new signing and he's just called Gavin N.

There's no reason why you need to know these people's names really, is there? Can just be Gavin N., who is wearing number 8. He has not disclosed his nationality

After a week of this muck outside people are going to be begging for the return of "why is it so warm and settled?" There is only so much soup you can eat before you get bored of it

Always liked James Maddison, I know he's meant to be your "don't like him but I'd want him on my team" player but I don't really have a dog in the fight so I just enjoy watching him (between injuries)

Did anybody really expect Tottenham to stay in the bottom three though? I know the recruitment has been a bit Supermarket Sweep but they won't need all those signings to go well

I know I've watched a game between two clubs and I'm only mentioning one of them, but Sky turned into Spurs TV for the evening so I figured I might as well carry it on
