Average Trump scandal: many people dead after uncontroversial government program illegally cut by doge for nonexistent savings
Average mamdani scandal: he’s playing BASKETBALL with his FRIENDS
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this
lol. lmao. I’m going to enjoy these next few weeks. I’m not sure what the freakout to a failed authoritarian consolidation will look like, but let me enjoy it failing a bit.
The biggest difficulty for Trump and Republicans here is that the first three steps for improving people’s living conditions all involve undoing what they’ve done.
1) Undo the health care and food assistance cuts
2) End the tariffs
3) Go back in time and never start the Iran war
There's a Politico (lol) piece entirely about how Republicans' hope right now is that the polls are all way off and they only get a MILD wipeout and first of all it's full of a bunch of nonsense but the best part is how it ends on this incredible bit:
"Fascists intended to redraw the map with the sword in order to secure their vision of an ethnically pure and strong nation… It is no surprise that conservatives across the Western world have embraced these ideas. What is shocking is how many Western leftists have done the same." (from October 2023)
A rogue executive going after the citizenship and thus eligibility of a duly elected member of Congress, an attempt to usurp the House's fundamental constitutional power to decide who its own members are, is dangerous in a way that exceeds even the possibility of bogus trumped up criminal charges.
Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and every day, we honor the first peoples of these lands and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Tribal Nations.
Pretty sad that the whole of ‘Western Civilization’ to those proclaiming it’s defense is merely the impunity of white men at the expense of virtually every other thing. I wish this guys were vanguards of something besides racism, misogyny and cheap suits but it’s all they know.
For the past two years I've been tracking every bill proposed in state legislatures across the country to figure out what Republican plans for the future are. The answer, based on these 1,182 bills, is that they want to repeal the 20th Century heartlandsignal.com/2026/09/09/b...

With all due respect to the Great Khan of the North, the young Khan of the woods Ossoff is really grabbing the Mantle of Heaven with both hands. The spirit of Temujin works through him.
ah damn, RIP Margaret Hamilton.
she took safety-critical software engineering seriously, and got people to the moon and back.

Dennis Hastert, ur pedo, has finally kicked the bucket. Shame that his legacy is living on so vigorously in the Republican Party, and nothing will get you put on the outs like calling it out, or worse still, doing something about it.
My 80’s kid hypothesis is Republicans are a diabolical Skeksi/Fraggle hybrid, and Dems are urRu/Doozer coded. Maybe I just like Jim Henson productions too much though.
Feels like there should be more American Kaiju movies where the Statue of Liberty is a giant robot and giant flaming sword erupts from her torch. A Mt Rushmore Voltron would be pretty sweet too. We really failed on the America 250 propaganda films.
Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse:

"they really believe it"/"they will try to do it"/"the promises are real" are things that most americans refuse to believe about politicians but if you take them seriously will help you predict political behavior more often than not
“No they really believe it” is a way better heuristic for understanding political actors than “they are on the take” 9 times out of 10.
Sometimes beliefs are downstream of materialism and political economy. But these relationships are more complicated than “bribes”
Lucan Way and I have been writing about competitive authoritarianism for more than 25 years. We never thought we'd write this piece.

Todd Achilles winning Idaho will break Republicans brains so utterly that if the party doesn’t collapse in this scenario (in which they most likely lose Texas, Florida, Nebraska and Kansas Senate seats as well), I have no idea what will.
i have now reviewed, as promised, what I think of the Todd Achilles campaign's chances, and I think there's legit path for him. we talk about it some below
Visitors to the US are on track to drop by almost two million year-on-year.
“We’re the only major country in the world losing visitation,” the head of the US Travel Association said. “It’s mind-boggling.”

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll.
Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens.
All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.
Okay, I am going to make your week a lot better with a recommendation today.
I don't care if you are a Marvel fan, a Muppet fan, or both, or neither.
This morning I bought MUPPETS TAKE THE MARVEL UNIVERSE #1 on digital because I couldn't wait for a physical copy.
