Given that @file770.bsky.social's response, when it finally came, to the comments on the JDA article he mystifyingly posted was him coming in hot on one of the commenters… I think he’s made his choice, which means I won’t be participating in that site at all any more. It’s a shame.

Hey, so, it actually took a lot of people doing a lot of unpaid work for Jon Del Arroz to be properly marginalized from the SFF community, and now he’s back, and in one of the more widely read genre fan columns around. So I just have one question: @file770.bsky.social, what the actual hell?

The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

I know that fuel prices hit the whole world economy, including the mechanisms by which electricity is generated, but hot DAMN I'm glad to have pivoted to powering my vehicle with electrons.

Oil hits $115 a barrel for the first time since May, adding to the economic strain just 11 days before critical midterm elections that may turn in part on affordability. @iankmsmith.ft.com @urbandirt.bsky.social www.ft.com/content/8948...

This does *not* impact all tailnet devices. Attacker must be on the tailnet. Systems must be in a non-default but widely deployed and supported configuration. Impact includes systems using headscale.

What the fuck do other fat middle aged balding dudes do for Halloween, that doesn't involve buying single-use or single-purpose garbage? Because your boy is being roped to a Halloween bar crawl with people who actually dress up.

Fellow WA voters, let's bury this. I can't imagine any parent wants to subject their child to this vile "examination."

Doctors and nurses are voicing their objections. I-638 would require EVERY girl who wants to participate in sports to go through biological sex verification. That means expensive, invasive, and utterly gross examinations. Protect our kids and let them play. Vote NO on I-638

Do I know anyone with hotel tips in #Lisbon? My partner and I have three extra days there, and we’d like to stay in a hotel that is both well located and is itself comfortable / beautiful. We don’t have tourist plans yet, but suggestions are welcome. Boost for reach, please?

This is, sadly, a pretty typical Seattle council meeting on homelessness. An overwhelming majority of public speakers explain why a how a proposed new punitive policy will harm homeless people. Supporters of the legislation display listening faces or don't, then vote for the legislation.

I'm woefully undereducated on world history, and even I know that this is in the top 5 stupidest things I'll read online today.

Martin Luther King was much more successful than Malcolm X for example. Before that, there was no need for a bloody civil war in most countries that abolished slavery. Just votes. Independence can also be bloodless. Gandhi in India, Walesa in Poland, Mandela in South Africa. The list is long.

Discworld QOTD, from Guards! Guards! 'People who are rather more than six feet tall and nearly as broad across the shoulders often have uneventful journeys. People jump out at them from behind rocks then say things like, "Oh. Sorry. I thought you were someone else.”'

Discworld QOTD, from Monstrous Regiment "A splendid effort. But, sadly, the world we live in has certain … rules, you understand? To be frank, the problem here is not that you are women. As such, that is. But you persist in maintaining that you are. You see? We can’t have that."

It's disheartening to see the largest publications in the nation not cite original reporting from independent/individual reporters. Not one mention of @marisakabas.bsky.social's work in ID'ing Tommy. Instead, the WSJ implies that Tommy came forward himself. Disingenuous, at best.

Critiques are great! We need more critiques from people who actually engage with the reality of the tools, not folks that feel the need to tag with a scarlet V anything tainted by association.

it’s really telling how Tommy refuses, even when pushed, to say why he wants El-Sayed to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood even though everyone in the room knows the reason these guys are almost all cowards in person

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

Several Cornell fraternity brothers say that they did not actively participate in the infamous group chat and were only included in it because Pete Hegseth had accidentally added them to it.

Holy shit, the LA Kings broadcast team is salty tonight. Given I have to listen to these lameasses because I can't get Canadian coverage, at least I'm going to enjoy their tears. #hockey

🧐 Cindy is one of the smartest people in the industry when it comes to deep understanding of tech and process and communicating ideas clearly so it it's interesting to see this contribution drop.

National soccer media needs to do a better job covering what’s going on in Austin. Entire fan section walks out mid match and it’s absolute crickets out-there. If you’re covering the match and focusing on Nashville’s win or Austin’s loss you are not doing your job.

Can confirm. I still sing along to this when it comes up on my shuffled playlist, and my partner, who is not terminally online and never has been, always gives me a long-suffering look.

everyone of a certain online age (the bluesky age) can recite most of this from memory especially the final, iconic “mister rogers in a bloodstained sweater”
