Mayor Mamdani: AI is present in nearly every aspect of our lives. I am proud to announce New York City's first ever AI policy for our public schools. Children need teachers and human connection to learn and grow. This school year, we will implement a 1 year moratorium on AI from 2k through 8th grade

New: Researchers have quantified how easy AI search is to manipulate. Just 13 words buried in a random Reddit comment can poison AI search results. They suggest this is not easy to stop: "The way you can attack these systems is so much dumber than you think it is" www.404media.co/it-is-trivia...

404media.coIt Is Trivially Easy to Use Reddit to Manipulate AI Search, Research Suggests"We show that a tiny snippet—just 13 words—of retrieved text on a UGC website like Reddit, Wikipedia, Quora, or Facebook can change AI agents to output spam / scam content pretty consistently."

💯 "while the politicians will happily [state] that violence is unacceptable, their actual behaviour shows [that it's] acceptable to operate a chatbot that generates non-consensual deepfakes and to help coordinate racist riots. And (…) the UK directs ISPs to block football piracy sites within hours."

We often desire the symbol more than what it represents: people go into debt because a new car makes them feel like they’ve “made it.” Generated text is a symbol of text in this sense, a cognitive debt that allows people to “think they have thought” about it when they have moved away from thinking.

it's my birthday today!! 🥳 As a treat, I'd appreciate if you shared the lil original animated short I'm directing (and maybe consider supporting?)! It's about a ghostpup and a witch! 👻 #art #animation #original

If sexual abuse was really considered a terrible thing, the world's richest and most powerful people wouldn't be abusers. The most valued technology wouldn't produce sexual abuse on demand. And allegations of abuse wouldn't be framed as positive depictions of masculinity. Our culture rewards abuse.

For decades, managers have failed at their one job: organizing teams around a coherent strategy. AI gave them a timely out. Now anyone can ship code without knowing what they're doing, why they are doing it, or how it makes money. But it turns out that shipping code is not the end of the work...

Anyway... I found it ironic that this piece, which is from 1970 (at which point the maximum copyright term would have been... 56 years... which, oh, hey, 2026!) and argues that copyright is too strict for academic works in particular, including works to be read on computer... is not widely available

You’ll never regret telling a Nazi to go to hell. You’ll never look stupid pointing at a Nazi tattoo and saying, “That’s a dealbreaker for me.” You’ll always be vindicated if your response to Nazi symbols, Confederate flags, and KKK bullshit is, “Go, or I’ll be back with bricks, bats & friends.”

The "getting drunk and making sure you see his gun lying around" part of the Platner allegations is what gets to me. My Dad pulled that shit. He doesn't have to hit you if you know he could kill you at any moment.

How can publications run articles like "Gen Z aren't shagging cos they're deeply boring" alongside ones explaining "Gen Z are living with their parents cos they can't afford to rent" and not connect the dots? How many randoms would YOU bring back to your parents' place and bonk next to their room!

see the problem is, there's a hole inside me where the capacity to be satisfied with attention and affirmation is supposed to be and nothing can fill that void and talking about it with others boils down to asking for more in a different way, so I'm just gonna implode into a tiny ball of carbon

there were transfems in front of me in line at the petco transparently buying petplay supplies (cute, based even) but when they got to the front of the line it became very clear from the conversations they were having with the cashier that one of them WORKS AT THIS STORE. UNIMAGINABLE SWAGGER
