it's telling that instead of letting the free market decide who's labor is more valuable they are passing laws to mandate lack of freedom of movement for (young, black) players to put the thumb back on the scale for (older, white) coaches

Awful Announcing@awfulannouncing.bsky.social

This morning on ESPN's First Take, Nick Saban argued player and coach pay are "totally different markets." "That's like asking me 'Does a student's scholarship equal the professor's pay?' I mean, how much value does a coach create for a university?" 📺 💰️

Reactionary Evangelicalism is less a religion and more a political machine. MAGA pastor Shane Vaughn recently made this clear, telling his followers to abandon all moral principles. "Lay down your convictions. We don't need them right now. Lay down your principles." h/t @rightwingwatch.bsky.social

The Trump regime admitted in court filings that the cancellation of clean energy grants for Hawaiʻi was because the state voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, rather than the previously stated reasons of advancing energy needs or economic viability.

For our mega-survey on populist attitudes, we asked whether people would prefer a more multi-party system or a two-party system. The former blew the latter out of the water. Asked about specific reforms to get there, people are less sure. Also, Trump populists are the most fond of the status quo.

remember the conservative plan for schools: 1) elite secular academies for the wealthy, 2) religious instruction to brainwash the middle class and 3) a prison-like rump public school system to discipline the lower classes into mindless servitude

New from @josephinelee.bsky.social, in our magazine: Districts across the state are arresting and citing young children children for common misbehavior, leaving lasting trauma as the Legislature rejects bills to raise the age of criminal responsibility and floods schools with even more police.

Justice Brown Jackson's argument for birthright citizenship is very moving. I recommend reading it in full. An excerpt with alt-text below. “The Reconstruction Amendments were an anticaste, antisubordination reset for the Nation, not a mere spot treatment for the dark stain of slavery.” — KBJ

They want us to be buyers-of-last-resort for Trump's Saudi and Big Oil paymasters. Their oil assets will otherwise go stranded as the rest of the world moves on to cleaner, cheaper solar energy. We pay, they laugh.

A new WoodMac report finds that the Trump administration's refusal to issue lawful permits for renewable energy development is putting 92 gigawatts of energy and $121 billion worth of investment at risk. The same administration that says the need for power is a "national emergency."

With this ruling, the birthright issue is not going away. The right hasn't really begun *organizing* around getting rid of the citizenship clause. Like Roe, this will be their fight for a generation. And if the Democrats just say "we won" and ignore it, like Roe, the Republicans will eventually win.

Inflation is at a three-year high. Everything costs more — groceries, gas, healthcare, a plane ticket. The math is simple. Every American dollar spent overseas on war is a dollar that could’ve been spent here at home to pay for a dignified life. It's time we change the equation.

Headquarters@headquartersnews.bsky.social

Fox Host: Not great news today when it comes to inflation. Up at 3.8%, so far a 40% spike in terms of grocery prices. Those numbers are up. Certainly not good news Mike Johnson: Not good news. We are keenly aware of it

It's not inexplicable. Trump promised to make everyone rich and prosecute their enemies, while Democrats didn't actually have a candidate until late July.

Trump didn’t win because his campaign was good. Trump won because something has fundamentally shifted in human societies that makes campaigns like Trump’s inexplicably viable. We really, really need to figure out what that thing is.
