So our cats aren't just related. Her cat was the anchor point for a lifeline I didn't expect anyone to throw, and I am so, so grateful, forever.

Sad and Fatal Accident A most singular accident occurred in Lindenwood Cemetery about 9:45 Tuesday morning, to a maiden lady named Miss Rachel H. Griffin, housekeeper for Mrs. Ira Gerry, whereby she met her death, the particulars of which, as we learn from Mr. James French, are as follows:

Being about to leave town on a visit was one of the reasons she was so anxious to see the monument. Whether she had a premonition that something was about to happen is not permitted to mortal man to say, but the whole affair reads more like fiction than the real truth. #spiritualist #stoneham

A year ago today, my beloved cat Hero went out the door and never came back. She was a hunter, and those who live by the fang die by the claw. I still miss her.

As the bald eagle circles, the loons dive deep - splashing the water high. I wonder what drama - what long dance - what habituation I'm watching now, and playing no part of. #spotpond #baldeagle #lion #stonehamma

I need like a year long sabbatical to do nothing but read and sit in nature and write long letters and listen to music with such a breadth of dynamic range that silence is required to hear it.

Miss Griffin was fifty-two years of age, and had been living in Mrs. Gerry’s family for about six years. She was closely attached to the late Ira Gerry, who entertained a deep feeling of respect for her, which was shared by his widow, who was deeply moved when apprized of the sad accident.

She was a native of Hudson where her remains were conveyed, & where the funeral services took place. She was intending to start out a visit to that place the day she met her untimely end, and Mr. French bought a ticket, and gave it to her that morning, (and it was found in her pocket by her sister).

The horse was eating the bark off the tree, and Dustin remarked that the animal would kill the tree, whereupon Peterson got a large stake and drove it into the ground and tied the animal to it.

When the stone was upset the animal became frightened, reared and fell down, and after making two efforts regained its feet, broke the stake, and instead of going straight ahead, turned around and came down the avenue, with what sad result, is stated above.

W. C. Dustin had drawn a load of stone on his wagon to near where Peterson’s horse started from, and Peterson was wanting to help Dustin upset the stone.

For that purpose he had tied his horse to a tree, with head facing them, so that he could watch the animal and see that he did not break away when the stone was upset.

The opinion of medical examiner Abbott of Wakefield, and Dr. Stevens was that death resulted from a fracture of the skull.

The horse and buggy belonged to Benj Peterson, and we might as well relate the follow peculiar circumstance in the chain of events that surrounds the accident.

The horse made right towards her, the shaft striking her on the left side of the chin, knocking her down, her head striking on the granite work, splitting the skull. The horse also fell down, his body partly in the lot, while the victim of the accident lay under the cross-bar of the buggy.

She was extricated as soon as possible, and Mr. French drove to town and procured the services of Dr. Winthrop F. Stevens. On his arrival she was almost pulseless and died to about thirty minutes from the time of the accident.

He could see the horse coming down the avenue, and sang out to Miss Griffin, but she paid no attention to him and stood as if transfixed to the spot.

Miss Griffin asked if he was going to the cemetery, and he replied in the affirmative, whereupon she asked, “Why can’t I go to, I want to see the monument,” (erected to the memory of the late Ira Gerry, and which she had never seen).

He readily consented to her accompanying him and on arriving in the cemetery while he busied himself caring for the plants, she watered them with the hose. Having finished what he set out to do, Mr. French was looking around, thinking about starting for home,

I brought receipts to the editing process, to explain why this seemingly random surname was culturally accurate, and that was canonized as his name. I've received some criticism for it. I've also received a bunch of mail from people in the region who felt seen because that name was right.
