“You can win elections by tacking to the middle; lots of people have. But you can also win elections by staking a moral position and convincing people to agree with you. You can earn support by demonstrating what is important to you instead of just being determined to nod along with what you hear.”
Yesterday I wrote about the effort by center-left pundits to police what people are passionate about. www.pbump.net/o/sincerity-...

More than 1800 detainees are missing after the closure of Alligator Alcatraz. Their families and lawyers can’t find them and they’ve vanished from the ICE database. Feels like this should be a much bigger story www.miamiherald.com/news/local/i...

I gave my heart and soul to that place. Built entire sections for journalists pushed out of their home countries. When the writer I hired, Jamal Khashoggi was murdered by Saudi Arabia, they paraded me around as a symbol for press freedom. I put MY LIFE on the line to defend journalism and WaPo.
weird that neither of these articles two main stories decrying censorship mention WaPo's firing of @karenattiah.bsky.social I guess democracy really does die in darkness

in light of the kimmel news, just a reminder that a few days ago a prominent fox news host literally called for killing homeless people. right afterward, someone shot up a couple homeless encampments. that fox news host still has his job.

Replying to @atrupar.com
If any one of us called for Brian Kilmeade to be killed by lethal injection, for any reason, we'd be rightly excoriated. Yet he can go on national television, casually call for the extrajudicial murder of an entire group of people, and it'll be forgotten before the coffee gets cold. Fuck this.

This man will not be fired for calling for the murder of American citizens, yet multiple journalists/reporters/teachers lost their job for accurately reporting things Charlie Kirk actually said and stood for. But it’s the “violent left” that’s the problem

As stated earlier by others, it does not matter what you post or do not post here. The right wing has their narrative they’re going to push, because they understand they are at war with democracy and that propaganda *works.*
Fox News' Jason Chaffetz: "I don’t think it was a coincidence that the shot rang out when you have a question about transgender mass shootings. Hopefully I am wrong. I will probably get criticized for jumping to conclusions... I don’t think that is a coincidence but we will see."

i'll say it again, my loud and vigorous support for any democrat who calls for televised hearings and criminal charges for everyone involved in DOGE. this guy should never be able to live in peace again.
On the left: Nate Cavanagh, a 28-year-old DOGE staffer and college dropout. On the right: Mohammad Halimi, a 53-year-old exiled Afghan scholar. This is the story of how DOGE targeted Halimi on social media. Then the Taliban took his family. 🧵

My husband Brad met a Venezuelan immigrant family on the bus in late '23. He started a GoFundMe, co-signed on housing, got them a car & the kids are in school. We're scared for them, but he's going to continue to help them as best he can. If you can help, it would mean a lot. gofund.me/5a303a24

If you click on this article, it now says page not found. The censorship is extending beyond steam now.
The censorship of 80+ games on Steam this week was apparently the work of Australian antiporn group Collective Shout, which partnered with US evangelicals to pressure Visa and Mastercard. They claimed, without evidence, that the games involved child abuse. Great work by @acvalens.net for VICE.

In 1993, Bill Clinton got a haircut on board Air Force One on a runway at LAX and it was a huge scandal even though it actually caused no delays for other planes.
very interesting thing just happened: EWR had a complete ground stop due to “thunderstorms” despite no storms in a 200 mile radius. The only flight to leave from EWR in that window? Air Force One. sure looks like Donald Trump just shut down EWR for 4 hours so he could watch a soccer game!
