Shakshouka with quail eggs and English muffins, which, when you think about it, are really just small pita,

“The devil is in the details” but it’s “The Devils is in the theaters”

The taco place ran out of limes and they just set out lemon slices at the salsa bar instead. This is a test of how flexible your culinary mindset is 🧘‍♂️

I gotta tell you I HATE my new avatar, which I guess was the point? Putting scary back in Halloween etc. Can't wait to change it tho lol

Voting leaflets arriving at my door until Election Day when I have already filled out and returned my ballot the day it arrived… Like henchmen chasing me up the stairwell and watching me grin smugly as the elevator door closes with me safely inside

Here’s a scene to open your smart-alecky horror/crime movie with: a quirky urbanite is walking their cat outdoors, when the cat, struggling against the little leash, pulls into the bushes, where it finds a dead body. Normally it would be a dog but here it’s a cat. Anyway, good luck with the project.

Made a fridge-cleanout dish: spanakopita batons with beet greens, chanterelles, artichokes, caramelized onions, and a variety of cheese – ricotta, queso asadero, goat cheese. Lemon zest and dill from a jar of pickles. Nice little walking-snack sticks.

Starting the weekend off with roasted/pickled beets. Wash, trim, wrap in foil, roast for 1 hr at 425°F. Peel, using the abrasive scrunched foil itself to help scrub the skin off. Slice, place in jar of vinegar. And don’t throw out the green tops! Great in pesto, or sautéed with garlic.

Dying as the narrator of the audiobook I’m listening to repeatedly pronounces Bangor, ME as “banger”

A spectacularly good, fun, smart movie—it runs everything from lowbrow pleasures of the flesh to highbrow thinkies (and highbrow nudes, and lowbrow theology!) Its reputation as scandalous provocation has never been sillier; something like Game of Thrones is wildly more vulgar, and less rewarding.

It's DEVILS Day and if you live anywhere near these theatrical engagements, you need to see it with a crowd. @jessicakiang.bsky.social — like Vanessa Redgrave, caught up in the rapture — has our review, a gorgeous piece of writing. www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

When I was a kid, I was confused that my peers disliked kale, spinach, and peas. Then I learned that their parents boiled the vegetables, and mine made ham-hock greens, creamed spinach, and roux peas.

Minor potentate so charmed by a mechanical bird whose movement and song is so lifelike that they demand the bird or else have a tradesperson executed is a beautiful story thst echoes through time.

When I was ~16 or so I saw some British TV series and a dour police detective was cooking a precious little dinner, watching his soufflé and his pan sauce, and it unlocked something in me. My dad had always done this, but on TV, it would’ve always been treated as a joke, ha-ha, can you imagine.

The year isn’t over yet, but as I met my goal of 50 books, here are my favorite reads so far: The Husbands by Holly Gramazio Kafka’s Dick by Alan Bennett Nothing That Meets The Eye & The Snail Watcher and Other Stories by Patricia Highsmith Ada by Mark Haber This is Not Miami by Fernanda Melchor

This was an awkward phone call to make after such a long time, but I finally called back Rod Stewart to tell him I don’t actually think he’s sexy 😕
