Glad to see I am not alone, had quite the Lokiarchaeota signal in some samples a while back that seemed to have been erroneous when compared to metagenomic sequencing. 16S taxonomies here from NB classifier trained on GTDB 207.

Couldn’t manage to catch peak conductions for this storm; but it did let me finally check of Nokhu Couloir off my list.
Thought my ski season was about over, only for the storm of the season to roll through. Inch per hour for the last 12, with almost no wind to speak of on the Cameron Pass USGS met station. Snow now starting to accumulate in Fort Collins. waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-l...

Mountain lakes are the "canary in the coal mine" for how ecosystems respond to climate change. That's according to the Mountain Liminology Lab's Mary Jade Farruggia, who was featured in an article from the Aspen Times earlier this month.

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars. OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

Cutbacks have gutted the staff at NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, who work to protect the public from toxic algal blooms. Severe spending limits have made it difficult to purchase ordinary equipment for processing samples, such as filters and containers.
Cuts to research are far reaching and will have immediate negative impact. Folks who work at CIGLR not only help facilitate fantastic work at University of Michigan but provide crucial HABs forecasts for recreation, fisheries, and water utilities. www.propublica.org/article/noaa...
