Oh, Toronto, don't try to make me like you.

A high-turnout election! Bradford got more votes losing than all but 2 winners in Toronto's post-1997 history, and both those cases were incumbents running against relatively weaker challengers. Olivia Chow, of course, won *even more* making her the most vote-getting politician in Canadian history.

As in Hungary, the authoritarian regime in Serbia is being dismantled . “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said.

I readan interview with Eddie Vedder where he said the Clash was the first band to scare him. I got what he meant and felt that this song did the same thing for me. Got to see them play it live in Ottawa in '05. They set it up with a preamble about Haliburton and the clean-up contracts for Katrina.

My favourite band as a teenager was @pearljam.com and one of the things they cultivated in me was my social conscience. Track 7 from my #MidtermMixtape is "Green Disease" - an anti-capitalist tune that helped inspire mine. Anger and urgency even as it appeals for moderation. youtu.be/ng-YARZMXqg?...

I know the vast majority of you are here because of my art, but I need to share a thread about Brazilian politics because what we achieved today deserves to be mentioned and celebrated I'll do my best to be objective for those who have no idea what was happening

Meanwhile, pro-democracy, pro-Europe protesters in Tbilisi, Georgia, are tonight nearing their 700th consecutive day of protest against the pro-Russian government. They haven't missed a single day in the last 23 months.

It's Rocktober, & I've got a new three-song EP with overdriven power chords, a heavy beat, & vocals straining at the top of my range. It's a month before the mid-terms, & I've got songs of protest. Please give a listen to Anti-Capitalist Dream on Bandcamp. michaelmunnik.bandcamp.com/album/anti-c...

Great news to wake up to.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

As a bouzouki player in an Irish-inspired band for several years, I am a wee tiny skelf of Donal Lunny's legacy. Rest in peace.

Ballroom Jam@ballroomjam.bsky.social

Just heard that Donal Lunny has died. He was a giant in the world of Irish music as a musician, arranger and producer and pioneer of the bouzouki as an instrument in Irish traditional music. Rest in Peace. ❤️ www.youtube.com/watch?v=831h...

It is incredible to me that we're having this debate in the Senedd at all, but I appreciate the clarity and solidarity shown in this clip.

It’s come to something when a photographer has to get legal advice, before displaying this photo in an exhibition, due to the risk of being prosecuted as a terrorist, but that’s exactly what I had to do yesterday. What a state this country is in.

I can't quite believe I have to say this, but as a kid born and for 11 years raised in Calgary and as someone who lives through the '95 Quebec referendum (as well as Scotland '14 and that bloody Brexit one), please don't do anything stupid, Alberta. Don't be complacent: vote. And vote intelligently.
