Congrats to Olivia Chow on her second term! The first competent and compassionate mayor that Toronto has had for a long time.

Why give tax credits to international game companies who close/gut studios on a whim, when we can instead support home-grown Canadian studios?
The developers at BioWare know how to run the studio. They know how to make the games we all love. They should be given the first opportunity - and the federal support - to buy it and run it themselves.

The government is looking for reasons to deny student visas, and the fact that they're stating non-existing application failures (e.g., that the student did not submit required documentation) is atrocious.

Seems like we've convinced Chambers to take this seriously! "Chambers has been left to 'scramble', as one observer puts it, for several days, discounting all that has been offered so far as merely a starting point for the talks that will at some point follow this weekend’s preliminary engagement."

"We are not going away:" Activision QA workers vote to authorise strike after two years of contract negotiations
Unsurprising behaviour from Wizards. Folks should think twice about buying from the company (most #DnD rules are free anyway).
Yesterday, Wizards informed us that it doesn’t intend to voluntarily recognize the D&D or Studio X units of our union ahead of a vote. We remain committed to creating a workplace focused on wellness, transparency, and collaboration by winning our coming election.
The fact that bike lanes are a huge municipal election issue is a victory for conservative candidates and parties. Instead of improving the lives of their constituents they've found a wedge issue to put all their focus on.
Over 300,000 public sector workers were on strike in Ireland yesterday. That's over 6% of the entire Irish population! This action was completely avoidable. The government has been unwilling to meaningfully negotiate with workers, who have been without a deal for months.

Gotten little attention in foreign media so far but Ireland is facing one of the biggest days of strikes in history on Wednesday with large parts of the public sector about to engage in industrial action. www.rte.ie/news/2026/10...

I would recommend that everyone stops doing business with Boots. The Westons are well known in Canada for scamming customers, including *two separate* bread price-fixing scandals.

I'm seeing a lot of people surprised by this, but it is unfortunately a common practice in the media industries. Companies can force workers to sign contracts with this clause because of job scarcity and poor labour protections. There really aren't that many big companies that make TTRPGs and CCGs.
You know this popular artist/ animator/ gave dev that posted a bunch of cool stuff on social media, eventually announced they finally got hired for their dream job in some big studio, and then stopped posting? This is why. This nightmare is standard practice.
"Currently, if an employee makes anything creative in their free time, with their own resources, Hasbro can claim ownership. What we do in our free time should not be dictated by the company, and what we make in our free time should belong to us.“

My union, IFUT, began limited strikes this week. ✊ We've been without a deal since June 30. The government has been unwilling to address cost-of-living measures at the start of any negotiations, which is disappointing amidst an inflation/housing crisis.
