OUC is a failed agency that puts residents at risk every day with avoidable mistakes that cost lives. @janeese4dc.bsky.social as Mayor, how will you transform this agency to reliably provide the help we deserve when we need it most? OUC needs a Randy Clarke-style makeover.

Petworth News@petworthnews.org

In July, a Petworth resident called 911 for a medical emergency. Luckily, FEMS 24 is only 2 blocks away, help should have been there fast. That didn’t happen: OUC sent the call to the wrong address. These mistakes cost time, property damage & potentially lives. www.petworthnews.org/blog/ouc-911...

This is a modern day book banning and we shouldn’t accept it in DC. @janeese4dc.bsky.social is this really the standard we want to set for our kids in DC? As Mayor, how would you respond to this? Do you support @dcpublicschools.bsky.social removing full-length novels from their curriculum?

The 51st@51st.news

Staff at Alice Deal Middle School made the decision this year to remove all full-length novels from the 8th grade curriculum. It's a mistake, current parent @aaronweso.bsky.social writes, arguing that "reading full novels has real and important benefits for middle school-age children and in life."

This is one of the most-shared posts on Bluesky in the past day and it's just completely false. You might think ChatGPT is a *bad* search engine, or prefer another search engine. But it has had integrated web search since last year.

I can’t wait to not buy a Tesla next year when the lease on my Model Y is up. When I originally signed it I couldn’t imagine ever getting another car/brand. Now I can’t imagine ever getting another Tesla.

Breaking news: Tesla’s quarterly earnings plunged by 71 percent compared to the first quarter of 2024, the company announced, a bruising result that comes amid widespread backlash against CEO Elon Musk and his work with the Trump administration.

What a great idea to drastically cut the workforce of public health departments during an ongoing bird flu outbreak. To quote a very stable genius during a different outbreak: "If we stop testing right now, we’d have very few cases, if any" We're in good hands.. I mean tiny hands. Whoops.

BREAKING: Nasdaq-100 futures down 5.4%, S&P 500 futures down 3.84% If this holds, this is the worst three day period in the market since 1987, worse than any three day Covid period.

Will the new Switch 2 cartridges have enough capacity to entirely store games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 or will these merely be hardware licenses that still require large downloads to play? I want to keep buying physical games, but not if these AAA titles require a download.

There’s so much GOP cope happening today. “At least Wisconsin approved voter ID so libs can’t cheat” Wisconsin has required voter ID since 2015. You spent millions of dollars and got your ass kicked for a rule that already existed and that fundamentally changes nothing.

The people of Wisconsin cannot be bought. Let’s prove that the rest of American voters aren’t for sale either. 🇺🇸

This was not a mistake - it was a message. Your "protected status" means nothing and they might kidnap you and send you to prison abroad with no way or desire to bring you back. Just another step in their campaign to get immigrants to "self-deport."

Right now there are a lot of new eyes on Signal, and not all of them are familiar with secure messaging and its nuances. Which means there’s misinfo flying around that might drive people away from Signal and private communications. 1/

Let’s hope that the @signal.org team is upping their red team activity because I’m guessing there’s a big increase in state-sponsored attempts at infiltrating phones of government officials starting now. I’d also hope that their MDM admin was forcing OS updates but these are prob. personal devices.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed war plans in a group chat that included the editor in chief of The Atlantic two hours before U.S. troops launched attacks against the Houthi militia in Yemen, the White House said. It was an extraordinary breach of U.S. national security intelligence.

I want a ChatGPT interface for my email - @chat.com email address that I forward all my email to. It’ll detect and delete spam and then intelligently summarize and present important emails to me immediately via push notification in the app, and a detailed summary of everything else in the evening.

I don’t agree w/ AltStore claiming Apple approved a porn app, but I do wish we could use 3rd party app stores in the US. This stunt doesn’t make AltStore look good. Tim Sweeney is wrong abt porn being allowed in Reddit app. To view 18+ you must hunt down a setting on Reddit.com & toggle it on.

Ok, quick thread on why DeepSeek is blowing up assumptions about LLMs and maybe the whole (U.S.) AI industry. DeepSeek is an AI lab funded by a Chinese hedge fund, their AI code is open source, meaning freely available to use, which most big U.S. models (aside from Meta’s) are not. That’s the start…

I feel like there should be a Bluesky feed of users with custom domains as usernames, which should make it easier to follow real people. Is there a way to make a feed like this? Has someone done it already?

Big miss for the Apple Mail update which brings verified logos next to what are supposed to be official emails from big brands. Received this scam for “$Disney Coin” cryptocurrency with a “verified logo.” Guessing Disney uses Salesforce email, so did the scammer, so Apple considered it verified.

Another awesomely useless interaction with Apple Intelligence on my iPhone. I asked: “how many episodes are in season 7 of the office” and it just launches the Home app and takes me to the controls for my smart light named “Office.” Really great.

Another Apple Intelligence unforced error: “how many episodes are in squid game season 2?” I really think that Apple should be punting many more of these queries to ChatGPT, which can get this easily verifiable answer correctly. Instead we’re getting replies from some outdated Apple web scraper.
