Okay, Ezra is confirming that he's hearing D senators are actually plotting to cave to Trump and end the shutdown WITHOUT any extension of the ACA, just a promise of a vote later down the line.
Call your senators, friends, NOW, and tell them NO DEAL without ACA funding!

The mass starvation & killing of Palestinians in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli gov’t is a chillul hashem, a desecration of God.
Jewish leaders who criticized Zohran Mamdani for three words he doesn’t use should raise their voices loudly here as well.

A reminder that after years of speaking out against Epstein and giving other survivors the courage to come forward, Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre died by suicide in April at the age of 41.
Let's not forget that there are real human tragedies behind everything we're discussing.
At last night's mayoral forum cosponsored by Hell Gate and NY Focus at the Public Theater, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social asked @bradlander.bsky.social a question that Lander was more than ready to answer: What he thought was the worst thing Andrew Cuomo did as governor.
NEW: The total loss of NOAA’s office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research —a nerve center of global climate science, data collection and modeling — represents a setback for climate preparedness that experts warn the nation may never recover from.

Lander spox calls Cuomo’s remarks “unhinged.”
“Andrew Cuomo has literally been sued by Jewish leaders for acts of antisemitism, and has a disgusting history of exploiting Jewish suffering for his political gain.”
My duty as Comptroller - and all the other fiduciaries of the NYC pension funds - is to protect the interests of NYC retirees. That's why today I called on the Law Department to pursue securities litigation at Tesla.
Andrew Cuomo doesn’t want you to know he has a court date TODAY for one of his sexual harassment cases.
And he really doesn’t want you to know he’s spent $60 million in taxpayer money on legal bills for these personal scandals.
When is Andrew Cuomo returning the money?
It's clear that the Trump administration denied due process to the migrants it banished to El Salvador *precisely because* any measure of judicial oversight would've proved their innocence immediately.

Democratic strategist James Carville did an interview with Fox News to encourage more lawmakers in his party to come out against trans people in sports and agree with Gavin Newsom
"I think that's a view that most Americans have”

Sharing information is more critical than ever and helping to defend our immigrant communities and neighbors is one clear action that we can all take right now.
The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents 800,000+ federal and D.C. workers (i.e. people directly impacted by a government shutdown), is urging senators to vote no on the House GOP's CR.
In other words, AFGE is saying a government shutdown is less bad than this GOP bill.
"Keshet and the Hebrew Free Loan Society are partnering to offer interest-free loans of up to $10,000 for individuals and families to support relocation costs to another state because of anti-LGBTQ+ laws, policies, and climate in their current state of residence."
Grocery prices are soaring.
Housing costs are skyrocketing.
Retirement savings are plummeting.
But Donald Trump thought today would be a good day to play car salesman.
Top Democratic appropriators DeLauro and Murray just introduced a CR through April 11. This (1) serves as an alternative to the House GOP six-month bill they oppose, (2) reflects their ongoing pursuit of a full approps deal for this fiscal year. democrats-appropriations.house.gov/sites/evo-su...
UPDATE — Secretary of State Marco Rubio has now commented on the Trump admin’s detaining & attempted green card revocation of a Columbia Gaza encampment student negotiator:
“We will be revoking the visas and/or green cards of Hamas supporters in America so they can be deported.”
If you are a reporter and are describing anyone other than an executive branch official as “complying” with an executive order you are not doing your job and are confusing the public. Full stop.
Reporter-turned legislator here. 👋
We had national conversations years ago about how national media writing about trans issues needs to include trans voices because it’s essential to journalism to actually cite people with lived experience in your stories.
Yet there have been no lessons learned. 🧵
“The CFPB is in the hands of the Trump administration and they’ve decided to pick the pocket of the American public.
The only people who benefit from a frozen CFPB are financial scammers and thieves.”

60 years ago, peaceful civil rights demonstrators were brutally beaten in Selma, Alabama on “Bloody Sunday.” The activists' bravery led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act.
We must protect the right to vote for every American.
This says that the Inter-American Foundation was personally destroyed by Peter Marocco, done from their building lobby, after claiming to make himself sole Board member and President of the organization simultaneously, then personally cancelling all contracts and ordering it to be shut down.
JUST IN: The head of the US African Development Foundation is suing Peter Marocco and DOGE — and he is describing in detail the standoff in which he blocked DOGE from entering the agency's offices.

If you're an REI member, you can vote to toss out the board that's endorsed Trump's candidate for Dept. of Interior and has worked to stop REI unions. Vote runs until May 2nd. Spread the word. vote.escvote.com/REI/
There’s a vote for the REI Board! If you’re an active member you can vote at vote.escvote.com/REI/
The board has union busted and endorsed Burgum for Dept of Interior. They are unfit for their roles and need to be voted out.
I really like this thread, talking through process, and each place we can stop them. Republicans tried to cut Medicaid in (at least) 1981, 1995, 2003, 2005, 2010, and 2017. Now 2025. This record of our success and their failure doesn't mean we'll stop them. But we can. We have before.
Each committee then marks up that legislation, where only the members of the committee can vote on it. This will be the first time we get the full details on what they're trying to do. They won't be able to pretend they aren't cutting Medicaid anymore.
This is the next place where we can stop them.
When OMB head Russ Vought talks about deliberate efforts to put federal employees "in trauma" and make them quit their jobs, he's talking about people like Michelle, recently fired by Musk/Trump.

NYU Langone and other wealthy hospitals are capitulating to Trump’s attacks on LGBTQ and immigrant New Yorkers — while enjoying hundreds of millions of dollars in local tax breaks every year.
I wrote about their publicly-subsidized cowardice at @jacobinmagazin.bsky.social.
