Hey Bluesky folks! I'm one of the weirdos that imported like, 11 years worth of tweet into this account, so if you're scrolling back and see something that makes you go, "OMG, read the room, lady" it's my sincere hope that it's ancient history in spite of the date.

Joe Manchin can absolutely go directly to hell.

Getting a good review from Kirkus is a great way to end a week!

This is actual garbage. Every writers' union should be clearly standing up and saying NO AI USE. Not, "we'll ask before your work is used to for training." For training WHAT? What do you need the work for?

The richest man owns X. The second richest man owns The Washington Post. The third and fifth richest men control Google. The sixth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. And the eighth richest man now owns both Paramount and Warner Bros. See the problem here?

With #BannedBooksWeek kicking off, here's a reminder to be vigilant, even in "Blue" states.

📚 Let books be. Protect the #FreedomToRead. During #BannedBooksWeek, we’re standing against censorship to support the freedom to learn, explore new ideas and see our communities reflected in the stories we read. Everyone deserves access to books that tell the full story of who we are.

Censorship is so 1984. Read for your rights. Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, and this year's theme reminds us that the right to read belongs to all of us, that censorship has no place in contemporary society, and that we must defend our rights. https://www.ala.org/bbooks.

I'm so glad that I got to spend some time with kiddos today to share WHAT IS A PIRATE? through storytime and craft!

BTW, the comic I did with my husband has a new home since Tapas is closing down. We're also working on a S2. Please also consider this my 300+ page demo that I can draw a #GN where the characters aren't all kids (sometimes they behave like kids though) 😅

@melindabeatty.com's fun new picture book, What Is a Pirate? isn’t even out yet, but the school she herself attended has already disinvited her from an author visit bcs of concerns that some might take offense to the story’s gender-nonconforming protagonist. mombian.com/2026/09/30/a... #BookSky

Utah added SEVEN more books to its state-mandated book ban list. Six of those titles are by women. 44 are now banned. This comes the week after a judge permitted a lawsuit brought against their book banning law to proceed. It's the busiest banning year for the state. bookriot.com/utah-bans-44...

Bear with me, this is a doozy, #kidlit folks. Censorship is alive, even in blue states.

It is always exciting to get author copies!!

Honored for WHAT IS A PIRATE? from myself, Stefano Tambelini and Little Bee Books to be included in @slj.com's list of Highly Anticipated Fall Picture Books!

I truly need everyone I know to read this book so I can ask someone else the billions of hypotheticals that are gathering in my brain as I go along.

Rough Draft vs Final Draft

Piratical picture book process is the name of the game today. Two creators discuss everything from Edward Gorey to Muppet Treasure Island. I host a discussion between @melindabeatty.com & Stefano Tambellini about What Is a Pirate? #kidlit 📚👍 afuse8production.slj.com/2026/09/03/w...

I'm not a religious sort, but if you want to be remembered well, do good.

I would like us to leave the era of polite condolences for awful, awful people. This is how legacies are sanitized. Telling the truth about what people did in their lifetimes is VITAL for historical records.

The internet was made for moments like this.

Imagine looking at this and going, “No thanks.”

The interventions are NOT working.

So, apparently this site’s social account decided to shitpost on Threads and then harass a user who pointed out their unwise social strategy. Why isn’t there ONE SOCIAL SITE on the internet that isn’t run by small, mean people who wouldn’t know community if it bit them in the ass?
