Since 2004, this community has helped make Firefox and the open internet possible. Our “Come Back to Firefox” campaign reunites a few early internet icons to remind people what made the internet special, and why it’s worth protecting.

Oh huh, the guy who broke the embargo for the latest major PHP CVE has started posting about shitcoins and even a pump.fun link. Guess this was all just part of a crypto scheme, then! Fun (/s). #infosec #php #CyberSecurity

It's called Terminal Selflessness, shut it. FUCK have I forgotten anything else?

Subscription-based model for a mod launcher? Ban all modding, I will sacrifice myself for the cause.

Silent@cookieplmonster.bsky.social

A mod adding Project CARS 2 tracks to Automobilista 2 used to be free, now the links were removed and the tracks can only be obtained through a "mod manager" that: - Needs to be DL'd from Discord - Needs to link with Discord even for a free tier - Paywalls those tracks

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

Security alert: YouTube added a feature that now puts your username in shared links, so if you share a YouTube link on here, everyone who clicks it will know your YouTube username. To turn it off, go to Settings - Privacy and turn off "Channel visibility for shared links"

Plasma 6.7 is out! You can look forward to easier menu customization, better control over your mics, and, as for virtual desktops, you get keyboard navigation and the much anticipated feature of having separate virtual desktops on different monitors. kde.org/announcement... #Plasma6 #desktop

People who know and have worked on Mesa, Fossilize, and video decoding on Linux should prolly get in touch with this journo too.

i'm working on a larger story about the state of video codecs in games based on this interview, would love to get as much input as possible from devs about the problems it causes (bonus points if a video editor can share their perspective on this, too). diego6arguello6 at gmail and my DMs are open

According to internal files and interviews, Luigi has been part of Super Mario 64 for 85% of its development time. New insights from development data allow us to narrow down when exactly he was abandoned, being the two weeks between February 6, 1996 and February 20, 1996.

It's only a matter of time now until someone (prolly Lyra Rebane) gets Doom running with only CSS.

Rebane@rebane2001.bsky.social

i built an entire x86 CPU emulator in CSS (no javascript) you can write programs in C, compile them to x86 machine code with GCC, and run them inside CSS lyra.horse/x86css/

I understand framing the AI bubble RAM supply crisis in terms of stuff like video game consoles because nerds can conceptualize that but the framing does really undersell the sheer magnitude of how it's going to fuck up everything that even touches a computer.

Looks like Fluxer is removing the CLA!! 🎉 www.reddit.com/r/FluxerApp/...

reddit.comHeads up, Fluxer has a BIG red flag: It requires you to sign a CLA to contribute code, which means it could become closed-source!

Fluxer (@fluxer.app) keeps coming up as a Discord alternative. It looks good, but it has one major problem: It's AGPL and it requires a CLA. That is an enshittification time bomb. I personally will not contribute to projects using that combination, it's gone wrong way too many times.

Google seems to be in the process of splitting up Android and Pixels along with moving towards treating other Android-based platforms as their competitors instead of their partners. Pixels retain first class alternate OS support with Android 16 firmware so it's not about that.

jules reposted

In May, we began preparing to port to Android 16 despite our most active senior developer responsible for leading OS development being unavailable (bsky.app/profile/grap...). Android 16 launched today and porting is going to be significantly more difficult than we were expecting.

GrapheneOS@grapheneos.org

One of our two senior developers has been forcibly detained and conscripted to participate in a war. When they first went missing, we revoked their repository access as a precaution. We soon learned their disappearance was completely unrelated to GrapheneOS. Our priority has been keeping them safe.

Unfortunately, Android has made changes which will make it much harder for us to port to Android 16 and future releases. It will also make adding support for new Pixels much more difficult. We're likely going to need to focus on making GrapheneOS devices sooner than we expected.
