They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.

Access to journalism based on public records is more important than ever at this moment, with government websites and records disappearing, DOGE doing its best to operate outside the public’s view, and the National Archive in disarray.

Thank you for this Wired. You just earned my paid subscription too. Those of us with any disposable income left at all need to be really strategic at where we spend. This move is stellar for democracy and freedom of speech.

The bit of this that makes the post feel like human attention is silly, but real. The use of *word* for emphasis is something i can't picture other news sources doing, but it's casually normal, and has been for a decade at this point, among regular people.

Does tuning into your guys YouTube channel and watching your content there help at all? The auto complete interviews is a great series tbh (could get some better questions and see about a mix of the whatever support series with the user questions as well?)

Oh, I don't believe our dear leader(s) would do something so underhanded. The scum ... er, salt of the earth that is this "administration" is, after all, gaining world-wide admiration for its progressive policies. Oh, they're actually fascistic policies? Never mind.

Thank you Direly needed And deeply appreciated By the sane majority of us Who care about what's really happening This information can help us Change the course The more people we reach The stronger we grow

I have access to your (some?) articles via Apple News but they can’t be gifted. I have assumed you get payment from this arrangement. Is that true? Kudos on this FOiA move!

In return for your generous sharing, I just bought an online subscription. Folks, you won't get a better deal for 10 bucks! That's 2-4 cups of coffee. FOR A YEAR OF GREAT REPORTING. You don't need to do the math to know that's an insane good deal. www.wired.com

There might be a need for a soft subscription service or donation support in Bluesky to support journalism “You like these guys, support them with monthly / yearly support” I’ve seen a lot of publications die bc lack of support. But monetization done bad is also bad

Soft subscription meaning the content is not paywalled but you pay for it so it continues to exist (or maybe they send you the physical copy) I don’t know. Maybe you get a star or smiley face next to your name or something or some other benefit.

I'm Australian but know how connected we all our. The disease killing US democracy is also spreading here & abroad. Instead of social media & superficial reporting, I've subscribed to US publications & individual trusted reporters to stay abreast and deep dive issues. Wired's initiative is pivotal.

It's time to do a lot of your previously paid for work for free- a good time to fight for our Constitution, and Democratic values. I don't need to be paid for it because I love the Truth embedded in our Constitution. It's a living document, that many willingly died for. Who are we to throw it away?
