My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

it can matter to you because it matters to, say, katherine (or orin or john or whomever else). it can matter to you because other things that matter are easier to engage with amidst joy than amidst misery. it can matter to you because nothing awaits you in the divine for resisting your own joy.

when I am walking past all the parked cars that for some reason are closer to the airport than the train station, I do NOT want to be honked at because a golf cart carrying three people wants to drive at 20 mph down the path

The next port commissioners election I'm a single issue voter for removing the golf cart from the pedestrian path at seatac.

One widely loathed, ketamine-addicted, white-supremacist billionaire can single-handedly keep a failing political party afloat, through the brute force of money. Excellent system we've set up here.

Two anti-LGBT initiatives are on the ballot, the state is settling lawsuits by allowing foster parents to discriminate against queer kids, and Seattle's NPR affiliate is inviting the board chair of an organization aiming to ban gay marriage onto their Friday chat show. Things are going great.

An early Space Shuttle concept was to rendezvous with Skylab and use a space tug called the Teleoperator Retrieval System to boost it into a higher orbit. Ultimately it was cancelled. (The Shuttle would be farther away, but I fudged it a little) (Blender + NASA public domain)

A Tennessee appellate court has ruled that the killing of a woman may have been justifiable because she was trans. The court reversed a conviction, stating that the killer could have a new trial because the jury did not know the woman killed was trans. Trans panic in the modern era.
