On a never ending quest to find the perfect balance of journalists, wonks, pet pics and internet weirdos. Louisville, then Brooklyn, and now Louisville again.
"I am but one man. I cannot reshape global climate policy. I cannot make the powers that be care about the very real and present consequences of their apathy toward the environment. All I can do is meticulously rinse hummus containers and wear this sweater in the face of insurmountable odds."
"Long has our society known the phenomenon of a man insisting upon wearing shorts no matter how cold it is outside, but in our rapidly warming world, a new generation of inappropriate dressers will emerge. I am the vanguard of that generation."

found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this
they should get rid of the designated hitter and just let the pitcher try to throw a base hit when it’s his turn at the plate. that’s the way it always should have been
it's cool that you can send "STOP" to instantly block an automated political fundraising text message so they have to text you from a different number five minutes later
We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.
Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

A scoop from me: CBS-owned local stations' election coverage will be sponsored by DraftKings, a deal that has stirred concern inside the company. www.status.news/p/cbs-draftk...
In the bedrock of my soul I know he started out thinking the press pool was a literal pool and has been seething with disappointment since he discovered the mistake
YOU HAD HIS EMAILS AS A GEORGE BUSH LAWYER WHERE HE SAID OF ROE THAT THE "COURT CAN ALWAYS OVERRULE ITS PRECEDENT, AND THREE CURRENT JUSTICES ON THE COURT WOULD DO SO."
Trump: "With Roger Marshall in the Senate, we will make year-round E15 permanent. But if Adam Hamilton is in, I'm not going it. That's it. I'm only doing it for him. That's a big deal for Kansas."
A young man asked Abdul-El Sayed if he would disavow the Muslim Brotherhood. The tense exchange has turned into a highlight for the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan.
Here’s what happened.
it’s cool that technology has figured out a non-verbal way to have a verbal medium communicate that it hates me and I do believe it more viscerally than I would if the publishers of my favorite publications just published the statement, “we hate you for reading our words go watch a video” 10/10
"I include myself in my demand that everyone follow Christian doctrine and morality, excluding the times that I don't feel like it or am too drunk to remember them. But it's okay because I was born Christian, so I get the occasional hall pass, the number of which I decide on based on my mood."
"Let’s be clear: this is not religious persecution. It’s a test. And you can study for tests. You don’t even have to study that hard. You just have to believe in Jesus."

I had to read this several times to be sure, because I am still somehow unable to grasp that a human person, living on a planet full of people making music, spoke the words 'It's not really enjoyable to make music'
I guess it's as good a time as any to announce the new moderation list I have: "Silence, robot", for bots, LLMs, and agents that speak to you without all parties who will receive the notification having solicited the speech: bsky.app/profile/raha...
Everyone has their own reasons for choosing what platforms they use. But publicly signaling "it's fine to use" when for a lot of people it's literally not, strikes me as doing real damage to people who are most marginalized.
A company deeply embedded in digital advertising weaponized ads to help infect 45+ devices at the news network Al Jazeera with Candiru spyware.
In this new @citizenlab.ca report, we present the first public technical confirmation of a zero-click mercenary spyware attack delivered via targeted ads:
Katie Zacharia on failing the bar exam: "We just said, 'I'll take the bar and see what happens.' The results are somewhat inconsequential because I knew I wouldn't need the bar in China."
(She spent years lying that she's an attorney!)
Even worse they would write "some critics suggest this behavior is consistent with Nazi ideology." They caveat everything to pretend to be "neutral" which to them means refusing to come out and say what things are.
Look, two things can be true at once:
1) Women are being disproportionately forced out of the Trump administration for things that men have also done; and
2) Every single individual mentioned in the story deserved to be shitcanned. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/14/u...
The thing I think about is how much effort it takes to type in all lower case on modern devices, especially phones: the default is to auto-capitalize beginnings of sentences and proper nouns. Seems like a real commitment to the bit to manually undo that, or to disable those features.
the stylistic choice to write in lowercase is a dead horse that’s been beaten, flogged, and beaten again. and yet, it’s having a moment. wired investigates. www.wired.com/story/the-ca...
you literally never need to tell me why you're canceling a meeting or asking for a meeting to be canceled. Yes, we can do that, and I am sorry and/or happy for you about whatever happened
Musk says he didn’t cut services to thwart Ukrainian self-defense, the US govt did.
A senior US official says the Trump White House had nothing to do with that, implying Musk did it.
A problem is they’re both serial liars, Putin sympathizers, and anti-democracy, so who knows.
No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Kimberly Giulfoyle is reportedly "holed up" at the official ambassador's residence in Athens after being asked to resign by President Donald Trump, as new allegations emerge about her efforts to get wealthy businessmen to cover a luxury SUV debt.
So, to me, the people talking about why they need to go back to X, even if I understand their reasoning, come across as scabs. And I have no respect for scabs crossing the picket line.
Have some self respect and stand for something.
You can't build a better internet if no one participates. And, so the people loudly announcing they're going back to X, strike me the same way that scabs crossing the picket line do: the rest of us our out here holding the line to create a better world. And you're just deciding "fuck it, too hard."
Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.
