Today we introduce TIN: a powerful and reliable full-text search extension for Postgres. TIN works with complicated WHERE clauses, replication, backups, and maintains correct transaction visibility. It's also mind-blowingly fast.

I don't care about mathematics and AI labs, this is the drama I live for.

BREAKING: The MAC has reversed its position and is fighting the Big Ten's extra 1 second for Michigan. "The established replay protocol requires that the game clock displayed on the program feed be used in determining whether time remained."

One of the stranger things we're seeing is the rise of fully headless apps. No UI, not even really intended to be used by a human. OpenAPI specs, llms.txt and robust documentation (using diataxis.fr) is all you need. Provide metrics/logs endpoints etc.

Designing for this feels pretty alien - there is nothing to look at. Classic ideas of UX go out the window. At best you could probably get away with only providing a CLI client of some sort for convenience.

As someone who has visited Portmeirion a large number of times, I kind of wish they just kept the 60s aesthetic frozen in time.

Whatever you do don’t take me to The Island from The Prisoner! I’d hate to live in a cool rent free apartment full of bold late 60s modern furniture haha noooo a bubble don’t chase me haha

who decided to call it speculative execution and not cache me if you can

I worry a little that beyond open source, AI re-implementation will mean less technical blogging on novel approaches to problems, or with such little detail as to be pointless.

past me: lets make a little wombo combo game where you want Big Number (inc exponents) current me: I hate combinatorial explosions, time to write a simulator so I don't have to figure out infinites by hand

I now join the chorus of folks looking for a job. I’ve got some software and systems engineering expertise, some AI/ML expertise, and I’ve been in a business seat for the past few years, meaning I know a lot more about how GTM, sales, etc works than I did. Let me know if you’d like to talk.

Finally baking again for the first time in... I think at least 18 months, if not longer. Hawaiian rolls this time. Terrible dough to work with.

The part of "everyone becomes a manager" in AI that I didn't really think about until now was the mental fatigue of context switching and keeping many tasks going at once, which of course is one of the hardest parts of being a manager and now you all get to enjoy it too

Sunday afternoon album today is Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass' "Whipped Cream & Other Delights". It's an extraordinarily 60s album, with probably the best version of A Taste of Honey anywhere. Gen Z will recognise Ladyfingers, which is popular on Insta and TikTok for some reason?

Standard great Filippo post.

To implement robust mitigations across Geomys, I did a survey of open source project compromises in 2024/2025. Three root causes dominate: phishing, control handoff, and unsafe GitHub Actions triggers. All three can be systematically avoided. words.filippo.io/compromise-s...

I really like writing RFCs, even as an engineering manager. I don't like writing RFCs when as I'm writing it, the list of teams that need to be involved increases more and more as I write it.
