Today’s reminder that diesel is up 70% since the Republicans started a war. This increase the cost of everything you buy. If Republicans hadn’t spent the past 40 years blocking the deployment of available clean energy technology we would have a clean grid & electric trucks & trains carrying goods

I also argue that liberals find themselves allied with the petroauthoritarian right because both factions share the commitment to protecting capital above all other considerations, including the human future on this planet. 2/n

If you care about fighting climate change, salvaging the Amazon rainforest and maintaining its capacity to positively influence Earth's weather systems, it's difficult to overstate just how significant a bullet the planet just dodged.

Gas prices in Kalifornsky. Food or heat. That’s the choice that Alaskans statewide are being forced to make because Dan Sullivan has voted 14 times to extend the price-hiking Iran war.

This is what “America First” and “energy dominance” actually look like in practice: Alaskan resources extracted by Russian technology, financed by Russian war profits (extracted from European gas consumers), for the benefit of Russian oligarchs and American kleptocrats

In a nutshell: we’ve driven past all the exits to climate safety except pricing carbon pollution; economic shock looms as markets predict the disruptions ahead in our climate reality; and an axis of climate evil is steering us toward disaster. These three facts must guide us.

One: We will fail on climate if pollute-for-free persists as fossil fuel’s business model. Offloading trillions in harm to humankind has always been wrong, morally and economically. It’s now lethal to any prospect of climate safety. It must end.

Read the whole thread & the articles. The Trump crime family is corrupt, immoral, & treasonous. This deal is wrong on every level. Russia, fossil fuels, betrayal of an ally, personal profit of government officials over public good

Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

A thoughtful thread from someone who didn't like what I had to say! I don't agree with everything here but am sharing because it's a good-faith criticism from someone I respect who actually took the time to read and engage.

This is a well intentioned essay from the always thoughtful @sammyroth.bsky.social. But it deeply misunderstands what is happening with the permitting debate, how that debate has evolved since the Inflation Reduction Act's passage, and why BAAJA is so fiercely contested.

On Monday, I'm recording a podcast with @ketanjoshi.co. He's going to present the strong version of THE CASE AGAINST (AI) DATA CENTERS. Tech company fuckery, discarded green pledges, the rush to gas, the empty promises that AI will help reduce emissions ... all of it. Got questions?

While this is chilling it’s also kinda hilarious in a sort of “live by the ratfuck die by the ratfuck” way bc running a same-name candidate is a classic GOP dirty trick and always has been.

What most people don't know: when you fill up a petrol car most of the energy never moves it. Petrol car: 13–21% of the crude oil's energy reaches wheels. Electric car on today's UK grid: 43–45%. Electric car on wind+solar: 77–80%. That's why we don't need to replace fossil energy one for one.

I really don't think most people appreciate how much damage air pollution does to our bodies & brains. Even in the last 10 years the science has progressed a ton & everything it has discovered is *grim*.

seattletimes.comA remarkable new picture is emerging of how the air around us could harm the brainResearchers discovered that some particles had penetrated deep into the brain, reaching the amygdala, a region that helps shape emotion and memory.

Trump raked in $2.2 billion last year, pocketing 31,000 times the income of an average American. While working families stretch every paycheck just to cover groceries and rent, he uses the presidency as a personal ATM. He gets richer while we pay. #TrumpsCrimesOnYourDime Time to end the grift. 11/3
