Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

This is a great profile on the late Michiyo Yasuda. One of the most influential color designers in animation history. She led the incredible color design for My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies SIMULTANEOUSLY!
She was Hayao Miyazaki's "right-hand" collaborator from the '70s onward. Her name was Michiyo Yasuda -- the best color designer in animation. Yasuda's eye for color gave Ghibli's work a totally different look. We explore her methods: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/the-artist...

1. Biden got a shocking amount of progressive policy through. 2. Almost no one, even progressives, realized. 3. The Biden admin - & Dems in general - are terrible at communicating their wins. 4. Trump et al have been able to undo a lot of those wins, partially because no one knows they're there.
A. In fact Biden’s messaging around his successes was TERRIBLE. He was unable to frame his victories for voters or the media. He let Republicans lead the news instead of telling his own story. B. There is SO MUCH to learn from Mamdani’s approach to storytelling, communication and narrative control.

Crucial, underrated distinction,. the blurring of which is near the center of our big problem: "I think you should" ≠ "you must, and the state will force you to" It's the same thing that treats "I think that's a slur, stop saying it" as equivalent or even worse than forceful government censorship.

The first warning arrived on a Tuesday morning, six weeks after consultants advised moving from dependency on six hundred small excel scripts - and nobody at Zenith Ledger Advisory paid much attention. It appeared in the system dashboard between routine audit notifications and a maintenance reminder

let's be clear, let's be very clear, let's be incredibly clear about something: Marcia Lucas is why you love Star Wars. She's why Star Wars worked. She's why it has heart. She's responsible for the in-media-res beginning, she's responsible for basically everything charming and unique about >
Oscar winner and San Francisco resident Marcia Lucas — the former wife of George Lucas who edited the original “Star Wars,” “American Graffiti” and “Taxi Driver” — has died.

The photographer in the white shirt in this photo had to go the ER last night with a broken finger after being targeted by an agent and hit in the hand.
NEW — I wrote about my visit to Delaney Hall, the ICE facility in Newark, NJ where detainees are on a hunger and labor strike in protest of rotten food, unpaid work, and unjust detainment, and where protesters outside have spent the last week drawing ICE's ire while keeping strikers' demands alive.

JUST NOW from @statuscoupnews.bsky.social livestream — ICE agents outside Delaney Hall in Newark, NJ pushed a protester into an 18-wheeler causing the truck to run over his leg. They then pinned him on the ground and carried him away.

You don't need Taylor or Kendrick, Mamdani could literally just book the surviving wu tang clan members to exclusively perform solo stuff they released since 2010 and it'd still be a better bill than the America 250 one
Gavin Newsom or Zohran Mamdani should hold a competing 250th anniversary event that gets like Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and a bunch of other huge acts so that Trump gets mad enough for It to Happen.

My team uncovered that foreign enemies are targeting U.S. servicemembers in war zones by buying their location data. The threat to national security posed by data brokers has never been more clear. We need to dismantle the surveillance advertising industry.
Scoop: Central Command is getting reports that military personnel are being targeted using commercially available location data. Few details available, but it’s a sign that the tech industry’s advertising-surveillance complex is having consequences on the battlefield. www.reuters.com/business/med...
