Artist Laura Wheeler Waring was a renowned portrait painter during the Harlem Renaissance. Her mother, Christiana Freeman, was an Underground Railroad agent & the daughter of Philip Livingston (grandson of a Declaration of Independence signer) & Barbara Williams, an enslaved woman from Jamaica.

On Fri. 9/25, we gather in Union Square for 60 Million Survivors Rising: NYC – an artistic and fierce expression of survivor power and solidarity. 4:30 PM Gather, 5–7 PM Rally. And sing with us this Sunday. 9/20, 1–3 PM Judson Memorial Church, to learn songs to sing together at the Rising.

I drew this Icon sketch yesterday at Albany Comic Con. I’ve been inspired by @quinnmcgowanart.bsky.social’s dope Milestone drawings. As important as Milestone Comics have been to me I haven’t drawn a lot of the characters. I had fun getting a little messy with a pentel brush pen.
