The broligarchs "made a philosophy out of a personality defect" is going to stick with me. I knew a lot of the details going into the book. But it's put together in such a compelling way it was both engaging and informative. Book of the year candidate. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ #booksky #bookreview @gilduran.com

All these plants are fine. Minor damage to the greenhouse. My living room and storage shed were destroyed. Washer and dryer flew across the yard. Many of my mature trees were killed. No power, water pressure dropping. Winds were around 90mph. Everyone here is fine. #hurricanelowell #gardensky
I took the roof off the greenhouse to keep it from shredding and moved all my plants to the bottom shelves. Winds expected to be 50+mph. #hurricanelowell #gardensky #hawaii #prayformyplants

This was surreal. I emailed the proton mail of the hacker group that breached the UK airports yesterday and they replied overnight with this...
Criminals publish data of 8.7m people after airports hack. I've chosen not to name the hacker group here as we don't want to draw attention to this damaging dataset now being offered for free to any and all scammers and scum bags online. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Real ones know what a "toque" is...
Ford: "I don't respond to a dictator like Trump, a bully like Trump ... I'm not gonna take any advice off a guy that's the king of bankruptcies ... your own people don't even like you. And they're gonna speak loud and clear in the midterms. If I was allowed to, I'd be down there door-knocking."

Fascism (which sucks) strikes us as aberrant *because* we are so modern. But wanting a strong leader to suppress minorities and lead your tribe in a brutal war in which you enslave or massacre your neighbors and take their resources - that was the DEFAULT mode of most polities before modernity.

All I want for Christmas is for people to understand that “capital allocators engage in speculative capex financed by debt” is literally a description of how every advanced economy on the planet, including the USSR and China as well as capitalist countries, has created economic growth since 1800.
Cory Doctorow put it best, I think: It's a handful of companies passing around a $100B IOU all pretending they have it in the bank.

On the one hand, I shouldn't wish my country ill. On the other hand, Canada's grandfathers bled with my grandfathers fighting the Nazis. When we were attacked on 9/11, we asked Canada to send their sons and they bled with our troops in Afghanistan. To betray that bond - we'll deserve what we get.
Late last evening I instructed our negotiators to return to Ottawa. We cannot accept what the U.S. has offered, and we will not give what they have asked.
"Since I left in 2024, just before the citizenship revocations and the war occurred, I had never experienced such an intense political atmosphere in Kuwait."
Editor’s Pick: When a drone strike closed an airport, a Kuwaiti writer was forced to make their way home by road through Saudi Arabia. Along the way, perceptions of the conflict with Iran and its politics varied widely.

"Spreadsheet people" is most salaried Americans. That's not always fun to think about. But there's a heck of a lot more working engineers and accountants than writers or actors. Microsoft Excel is the single most important development in human productivity in the past 40 years.
People can’t just say this for literally years now and have the products it creates only positively affect spreadsheet people. Most people have profoundly negative experiences with this product because its utility remains pretty niche but targeted to the capital class.

the seams in the Luigi discourse is the revelation that a whole lot of people 1) think we have homo sacer already and 2) think that category is way waaaay more inclusive than any reasonable expectation
