University Textbooks from the year 2076 on the 'Rise of Britain's Far Right' will have a little section on how 'Ex-Tories being absolute whores for a cash transfer' was an important factor in normalising extreme views.

The Lads clearly know who Turning Point UK are, and not just that but that they are "unabashedly racist" and have links to both Reform and the Conservatives. Reeeaaaaally feels worth commenting on the fact that this organisation was recently exposed as claiming to be able to contract assassinations

Y'know if Labour people like Glasman, McSweeney, Embery and Woodcock took over Reform, I'm not sure you'd even be able to tell

Magic Money Tree@magicmoneytree.bsky.social

Probably another thread that if pulled on enough will expose people in their camp too (Glasman, Woodcock etc)

Honestly the complete lack of coverage on this Turning Point UK story is going to do me in. Compare Israel to South Africa and The Lads will go through your bins, but have links to senior right-wing politicians and brag about being able to hire hitmen? Nada. Not interested. Budget's soon y'know

I mean, imagine for a second what kind of headlines we'd have seen if, say, Seamus Milne was caught on camera with, for eg, the IRA, talking about having people killed. Do we think it's not very clear and obvious what the reason for the disparity in coverage is, here?

Magic Money Tree reposted

You have to laugh at the sheer insanity of Turning Point UK being found to be organising literal contract killings and paid agitation at protests up and down the country and it barely even raises a flicker across the press. If that isn't 'terrorism' on some level I don't really know what is

Remember the centrists doing their little victory dance around this? Turns out that decades of indulging "legitimate concerns", punctuated by occasional bouts of tutting at the overt far right, does more to strengthen the far right than weaken it. Who could have guessed? (Many of us).

#Onthisday 2009. Nick Griffin, the leader of the British National Party (BNP), appeared as a panellist on Question Time The BBC's decision to invite Griffin was immensely controversial. His appearance drew a record audience of eight million viewers Full story: www.politics.co.uk/history/bnp-...

Ludicrous. Europe's centrists have (especially in France) pursued an active policy of bashing and blaming the left while simultaneously adopting large parts of the far-right's programme and ditching key liberal principles. You've been in power for years: the social and economic malaise is on you.

ft.comEurope’s moderates must stop treating politics as a spectator sportWhile centrists have retreated to myriad bubbles, extremists turn up, join up and organise

It's this, and, it's also an overtly supremacist and eugenicist ideological turn. It is founded on the idea that life is supposed to crush the weak and that if you help people you're undermining society at large by preventing a natural process that would eliminate undesirable elements.

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

the idea that empathy is dangerous has been permeating right-wing spaces for a while, but it's not an actual element of their ideology as much as it's a defense mechanism against confronting the reality of their cruelty

An absolute ransack of the climate. When ministers say this will 'help British energy consumers' or 'bring down bills', they are *lying*. This gas will be sold on the open European market, and will feather only the nests of fuel execs. Cynically delayed until after the H&St.P by-election too!

bbc.co.ukUK government approves Jackdaw gas field, and says production will start this month - follow liveThe government says the approval will "heat millions of homes and protect hundreds of jobs". Green Party leader Zack Polanski calls it "climate vandalism".

I mean, this is the Green Party's ultimate pitch and purpose, isn't it? Climate change is real, it's here, it's terrifying, and the Labour Party won't do enough about it because they're in hock to corporate interests

This is fine* *And remember, if you point out how far the world is falling behind on climate targets and that current clean energy progress whilst laudable isn't big or fast enough, then you're a typical left-wing misanthrope who just wants to complain

And there we go. I get that politics involves trade-offs, but this decision really couldn't be more opposed to what the New Economics Foundation was recommending when Miatta Fahnbulleh was its Chief Executive

Magic Money Tree@magicmoneytree.bsky.social

And so starts the next cycle of the Labour's soft left publishing some actually-not-bad policy platforms and the Labour right nipping them in the bud, all the while stringing along the FBPE types who largely make up the Labour membership now

Damn. "Contract Killers and the Far Right is an Al Jazeera Investigation that exposes the links between the right-wing student movement Turning Point UK which has organised and participated in anti-immigrant protests in the UK and an armed paramilitary who can arrange murders for money."

Lads, we used to joke that the politics of the Labour party boiled down to what went down well in Zone 2 dinner party chats & well. He just tweeted it out

Bringing up this one again in light of The Lads being shocked and appalled about what ITV unearthed Reform councillors saying, as if it's something new rather than something that's Noticed or not depending on political expediency

Sorry to bring everything back to what I heard in the pub 15-20 years ago, but what Jenrick said is exactly what I'd hear in the pub 15-20 years ago. You couldn't mention Bradford without someone saying "Bradistan", or "Spot the white man". None of this is new, it's an orchestrated dropping of masks

GB News is launching GB Music Radio, a 24-hour digital station only playing artists from Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on 2 November. Chief revenue officer Ross Sergeant said this "gives advertisers something genuinely new". radiotoday.co.uk/2026/10/gb-m...

Just reminded myself I need to find the Radio 4 segment from sometime last week that tried to pin some of the blame on "gamer culture" (or words to that effect) for this Norwegian teenager who was arrested in Huddersfield for signing up to carry out a hit

This is the kind of policy that you'd expect, well, a mayor to come up with. He's giving the vibes of a football club's new manager who mainly signs players he's previously managed

Look, I hate dickheads playing music on trains as much as anyone, but this is completely unenforceable. Meanwhile we're into the 4th week of gangs of fascists attacking houses in Salford and Burnham hasn't even mentioned it. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

And again, it's just sticking plasters. Burnhamism isn't fundamentally changing anything - it's just better TikToks and hoping that doing things like filling potholes and giving people £50 vouchers here and there is enough to see off Reform
