Gameplay Data Analyst for AAA games. I believe fully in supporting stories that are worth telling. I also do a bunch of crafty and cosplay stuff. Opinions and thoughts are entirely my own.

just think it's interesting that none of the breathless "chatgpt is alive and will replace human labor" pieces mentions the actual human labor underpinning it all.

I met with AI data labelers in Kenya who are organizing their colleagues to fight the brutal working conditions and horrible pay given to the workers at the "bottom of the AI supply chain." They believe the NDAs they've signed are unenforceable so are speaking out: www.404media.co/ai-is-africa...

I love games and so many of the people who make them. It was an honor to accept the award on behalf of the team and a privilege to be able to speak to what I believe in. ♥️

For some reason the media is not mentioning that the reason GTA6 is being delayed is they fired 40 staff over threats of unionization and now the rest of their staff are revolting

I reached out to The White House and asked about its use of AI-generated Halo imagery. White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai just responded to me, and it's insane. I've removed the paywall. Please share and subscribe if you can. www.patreon.com/posts/exclus...

Yeah the buy-out of popular mainstream American game studios continues. It may seem bleak but there is a super important thing people are over looking. When you layoff experienced artists and entrepreneurs they go make something new. We're about to see a lot of new game studios start popping up 1/2

A paradigm shift is brewing in the industry and it is going to be driven by new game studios. It will take a couple years to get going as they find funding, but its happening. Games works in longer cycles than people realize. And I for one am looking forward to it. We just need to be patient. 2/2

I love my producers. They are the backbone of any team and work so damn hard!

Erik Robson@erikrobson.net

Someone asked for details about what a good Producer does to be good, so I took a stab at it. Caveat: I am NOT a Producer! This is my perspective as a lead and IC. I encourage Producers to add anything I've left out. Also, I acknowledge I'm setting a high bar here. Nobody can be everything.

just learned about the content warning that open Silent Hill f and this feels like it comes from a parallel world where AAA games took on a whole different meaning for "mature" damn. more of this approach please

I will never forget the time I was asked to assist in UX testing a design, wrote up an outline of no-go issues, and then was told by the PM that they weren't going to address any of them because it would take too long. Our director then yelled at us for not testing the UX thoroughly when it failed.

Shocked but not surprised to learn how many ~titans of industry~ who probably think of themselves as brave ballsy businessmen are actually cowardly pieces of shit when it counts.

An underappreciated CPTSD recovery hack is to create. Create anything. Art, music, food. It doesn't have to be objectively "good," or objectively anything-- just create. Make. Generate. Creativity oils every aspect of our recovery work. It literally reanimates our brain & heart.

Hope all you video game industry workers in the States have a good Labor Day, especially all the video game industry union members in whatever part of the business you work. Thank you!

game balance and play pain points. Even single player games can use data analysis to identify places to smooth the gameplay experience to keep players engaged. And the sooner you loop in data analytics into your development cycle, the sooner you can get play insights to support 4/5

a.) the real reason for these layoffs is Greed and Fear and b.) the 'data' used here is specifically marketing data. Corporate greed and ignorance set unrealistic goals and then blame the game for not hitting these numbers. These are all, of course, legitimate frustrations. 2/5

But data analysis also offers amazing insights in to game design. I don't mean marketing analysis. I mean pulling gameplay statistics to see if your players are engaging with the systems the way you expect them to. I mean planning logging ahead to be able to check 3/5

Elspeth and Ravyn, from One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig. When I tell you that I *devoured* this duology, I absolutely loved these books! So of course, I had to do some fanart ❤️‍🔥 Painted in Procreate and CSP #digitalart #characterart #bookart #fanart
