I am signed up for classes! Intro to scripting, and Precalc. Mom: But you took Precalc already! You took Calculus! Why didn't it transfer over? Me: Um...yeah. Actually, since I took Precalc in 1988 and Calc in 1990, I'm good with retaking it! #snhu

I’m signing up for a degree in Computer Science (Software Engineering) and my mother is worried it won’t be marketable because AI will make it obsolete. Any advice or things I can show her to prove it’s unlikely?

I’m not generally a person who prays much, but I prayed today, for the first time in years. For the pope’s health. Of course, I’m Jewish, so it mostly went, “Dear god of my forefathers and foremothers, if you really exist, please give this man good health and a long life. He seems like he’s

a good man and could do a lot of good in the world, and we have far too much evil these days. We could really use him. Thank you.” Amen.

Y’all, we are doing Kahoot in class! I have never played this before! (Girl next to me: “You’ve never done Kahoot??” Look, you, I did stuff on ACTUAL SMELLY PURPLE DITTO PAPER. No, I haven’t played Kahoot before!)

Yayyy! Look what the preorder fairy brought me! (And because I know some people are being very normal about it: haters will be mocked or blocked.)

Me in college: Why do I need to take physics as a premed major? I don't need to know how a microscope works to use one. Me now, in manicure class: *learns all about electricity* Life is determined to make me well-rounded. Sigh.

We really need to find a way in sanserif fonts to tell lower-case L from upper-case I. Because I need to know if we're talking about a guy like my Uncle Al or a machine like someone's AI. Actually, both kinda suck, but still.

Happy to report that if anyone, like me, was missing their PSL, DaVinci's pumpkin spice syrup is awesome! (No, I don't have a local coffee shop. Yes, I adore Sbux. No, I won't go there while the union's requesting a boycott.)

Let me just say for the record that there is a lot more infectious disease training involved in manicuring than I had anticipated! (This is not a bad thing, both because I am a geek and because I like not getting sick.)

In the last week, I've been whinging about my sore arm (got flu and Covid shots; I think it's the Covid arm) and had two different people tell me "that's why I don't get them!" I had to tell both of them it's damn well better than getting sick. Why do people not get that?

Ugh. Looking at apprenticeships too, because hey, I'm not above learning a new trade! About 95% of these "apprenticeships" are "do the whole low-income job but for even less money". They don't teach anything, they just want cheap labor.

Did a skills assessment to see what careers I'd be good at, in case there was something I hadn't considered that I might enjoy. This is my top match. I feel it might be just a *little* optimistic on the salary.

With HBO releasing that new trailer, just a reminder that you don't NEED to engage with anything created by someone who uses their wealth to finance the physical, psychological, and emotional torment of trans people. You don't NEED to watch, or read, or buy any of it. Doing so is an ugly choice.

Ugh. Lost the stone on my rook piercing. Replaced it. Lost that one. Tried to replace it, the backing came out. Tried to get it back in, made my ear bleed, never got it back in. I give up; this one is going to close up.

And yet another job posting wants to talk with me and is a complete scam. That makes three. My energy is being sapped by applying to and engaging with these fake postings, and I've had it up to here. Don't these people have anything better to do than kick people when they're down?

Today/tonight's low-cost entertainment is an Insidious marathon. These movies are genuinely good! Really enjoying them. Sensible people that I care what happens to, judicious use of jump scares, and genuine creepiness! (Also wow, set design, location scout, music, and photog should all get awards.)

I'm applying for manicuring school. It's an accredited post-secondary school, so they have federal regulations to follow. They need a copy of my high school transcript.

Realized today that one reason I'm coping fairly well with this shit is that while I have a ton of stress about being unemployed...I no longer have stress about my job. That's a pretty big relief, honestly.

Wow, job fairs are tiring! Hot and standing and walking and smiling and oof. Gave out some resumes, got some cards, we'll see if it goes anywhere. One place hires for clinical studies. NGL, that would be pretty damn cool for some interim money.

Had a video interview for a job today. Two minutes in, surprise! Cat barf. *facepalm* Overall I think it went well, though. I hope. It sounds like a cool place! Crossing my fingers.

I had already planned vacation yesterday and today and paid for things and made plans, so I have been continuing. Yesterday, Steam Powered Giraffe in Pittsburgh! Today, new tattoo!

Thursday would be my 19-year work anniversary. I've been repeatedly told how valuable I am and what a good job I do. I've just had my position eliminated and I'm being let go.

Opted out, of course. Mind you, this wouldn't stop someone committed to making "AI" bullshit with my image (either of me or the ones I've taken), but it really is the principle of the thing.

Monster is doing a bit better today. I'm not quite ready to stop panicking yet, but I'm getting there. (And then every time he does something even slightly out of the ordinary, I panic again. Sigh.) How you know you're going to the right place: the vet and two of the techs donated for him <3

Thank you so much to everyone who's helped out by sharing or donating (or both!) for my Monster. I've got enough to cover the initial vet visit; next is the hospital stay. He's doing okay; his checkup is on Friday, and we'll know more then. Right now he's in his box. He loves his box.
