SPOKANE PEOPLE! The Spokesman-Review is holding a pop-up newsroom next week where you can come drink beer, hang out with us and listen to a chat about covering Spokane news. Tickets are FREE… Would love to see ya (I will be there)

We’re here again! #weekwithoutdriving

RANGE Media@rangemedia.co

Can you go a week without driving? Challenge yourself to get to know Spokane in a new way by joining local electeds and grassroots group @spokanereimagined.org in going one week without driving --- an experience created by Washingtonian and Disability Rights activist Anna Zivart:

We have absolutely glorious bike-riding weather in #Spokane in the fall. Being efficient is a bonus, but I do it for what I see and how I feel.

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

Remember this one? “Humans aren’t very efficient movers—until you put us on a bicycle, when we become some of the most energy-efficient land travelers in the animal kingdom.” The most efficient travellers are us on bikes. Proven science via Scientific American @sciam.bsky.social #CityMakingMath

Sorry to hear of the passing of Peter Max, who designed this stamp for the #Spokane World’s Fair. I have a poster of this outside my office at City Hall.

Spokane is what happens when thoughtful city leadership meets effective grassroots activism (Sarah Rose and @spokanereimagined.org are doing awesome work). Racking up real wins on housing and safer streets. Turns out we can try bold things to fix our cities without first studying them for years.

News: Spokane is launching a new Emergency Streets program that will rapidly deploy traffic calming within 72 hours of any fatal crash. The program is intended to slow down drivers and increase awareness while crews evaluate whether factors like street design factored into the crash.

The Bicycle Advisory Board will be leading bike buddy rides on Sept. 15, from your local library or community center to City Hall, where there will be an additional ride looping downtown. Sprocket & Sprinkles will also be at City Hall, so be sure to get some ice cream and support a local business!

The City has issued its first rebuilding permit following the devastation from the Spokane Complex Fire. To help residents understand the rebuild process, the City created a flyer to easily identify the steps that must be completed prior to issuing rebuild permits. my.spokanecity.org/news/release...

The #SpokaneComplex fires : a journalist’s eye for details with a heart for the people she encounters, all the while at great personal risk…

Critical fire weather conditions are expected Aug. 7-8. A combination of high temps, low humidity, and gusty winds will create an environment where new or existing fires can spread rapidly. Please remain vigilant, avoid activities that could cause a spark, and sign up for alerts at SCEM.org.

The #SpokaneComplex fires are still dangerous and thousands of people are displaced. Here are ways to help.

City of Spokane@spokanecity.org

As the Spokane community continues to face the devastating impacts of local wildfires, you can help your neighbors. We will continue to update this thread with more opportunities to help!

If you are in #Spokane, please help us conserve water. There is an amazing aquifer underneath us. Let’s protect it.

The Spokane River flow is now under 1,000 cubic feet per second, and moving to Level 2 in the City’s drought response. Additional actions include avoid spraying down sidewalks, patios, etc. Where you can, reduce watering your landscape to two days per week. my.spokanecity.org/publicworks/...
