I love seeing my slide design techniques rub off on my department 🥹 everyone started putting animal graphics in the corners of their slides to correspond to what model system a publication was based in

Super excited to share my project at the cell adhesion and planar polarity Gordon conference today! Come find me at poster #27 after you snag some coffee :)

Read this forbidden fruit--the editorial that got the Past President of the American Diabetes Association kicked out of the organizations meeting with a police escort 🧪

The current President of the ADA is Harvard Medical School's Dr. Enrique Caballero. Perhaps he'd like to hear from you if you think the ADA's actions in ejecting Dr. Kahn and his colleagues from the national meeting were wrong enrique_caballero@hms.harvard.edu hms.harvard.edu/faculty-staf...

Steven Kahn, director of the UW Diabetes Research Center, was removed by police from a national conference as he and others handed out copies of an editorial.

Sooooo... Several people shared this slide with me. NIH is apparently working on a new parent mechanism called an RP1. I have many questions (and only a few answers). (EPMC is the NIH-wide Extramural Program Management Committee co-chaired by Jon Lorsch). 1/4

I really love how my work in dev bio has become circular. Started in zebrafish studying the establishment of L/R asymmetries in the body plan via cellular junctions (thanks Jeff!) and now I'm studying the establishment of A/P asymmetries in the body plan via cellular adhesion proteins (thanks Lila!)

eeeeee so excited im presenting a poster at the Signaling by Adhesion Receptors Gordon Research Conference this year 🤩 can't wait to spend a whole week thinking about cellular adhesion

Gave a tour of fish facility to middle schoolers as someone who studies development and I had to figure out how to explain getting eggs without talking about fish sex, then overheard kids asking what "breeding" was and I just

How do you handle teaching kids about reproduction when they don't know about sex? I don't want their parents to get mad, I think that's a convo for a child to have with a trusted adult, how do I explain how cool external fertilization is as an embryologist without explaining fertilization? 🥲

Today is #RareDiseaseDay & we are celebrating by highlighting the invaluable work of the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN)! Formed in 2020, it aims to solve the most challenging medical mysteries using advanced technologies. In this thread, we will highlight their use of the #zebrafish model. 1/5 🧪

Very much worth 3 min of your day.

Omg. WTF is Happening?@lalahaenzy.bsky.social

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

My cohort is trying to do Grillz for our defenses where we all get grillz to celebrate becoming doctors and I think this is the best idea I've heard in ages

Sitting here with friends, scheming to bring more beautiful things into the world. I open bluesky, am met with more horror. Every day more horror. On Sunday, I gave a talk to the scientists where I implored everyone to do *anything*. It's easier to break than make things. Please make something.

I love grading students homeworks because I just have fun talking to myself in the comments. Highlighting the good text and commenting "slay," or "bars" throughout their assignment makes me giggle, hope my kiddos enjoy it too

Reminder that the first time Watson mentioned Rosalind in The Double Helix, his comment was that she was ugly and would look nicer if she put more effort into her appearance. Imagine ripping someone's idea, it putting you on the map, and the way you immortalize her is by calling her ugly.

Anyway, women, people of color, people on the spectrum or with disabilities, and queer people all deserve to be in science and the old guard that says otherwise is literally decomposing.
