Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

That's a lot of debt!

Matt Scherer@matthewus.bsky.social

Anthropic's IPO filing yesterday revealed at least* $550bn in off-balance sheet debt, for a company with $16B in annual revenue. Paying its bills will require Anthropic to sustain implausible revenue growth given the pressures that are squeezing their--and the whole AI ecosystem's--margins. A 🧵

I think this deserves to be underlined: the common conception is that it is nefarious developers corrupting things, when QUITE OFTEN it the people controlling the levers of governmental processes being the active agents of corruption, instigating pay-for-play transactional behavior.

So, is calling it a Cheescake Factory and insult or not? Seems like MAGA can't all get on the same script here.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump is BIG MAD about Obama saying the White House now looks like Saddam opened a Cheesecake Factory: "He's not a smart guy. He's not smart at all ... for you to say it's a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president"

NEW: The group behind Cornel West's 2024 ballot push was wholly funded through Elon Musk's dark money network, according to Sludge's review of tax documents. readsludge.com/2026/10/26/m...

To be fair, after the first bits of the video, he does talk about the golden age of Arabic science, and complains that it's no more. I doubt his diagnosis is correct, and I doubt that it's truly over, it's more that the west hires a huge fraction of the scientists and they move.

OMG the two people on KUOW smugly bitching about how Nate Silver was wrong in 2016. Nate Silver is wrong about a lot of stuff, but things with a 25% likelihood do in fact happen all the time.

Especially as we get closer and closer to the election, this gets more correct. Though I will say I mailed my ballot the day I got it, my wife mailed hers the day after, and they have both been received and counted.

I am not a BC politics knower (though I love BC) but this seems bad.

Justin McElroy 🇨🇦@jmcelroy.bsky.social

IT'S OFFICIAL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 93 YEARS, THE B.C. CONSERVATIVE PARTY WILL LEAD THIS PROVINCE CBC IS PROJECTING A MAJORITY GOVERNMENT LORNE DOERKSON GOES FROM AN UNKNOWN MLA TO THE NEXT PREMIER OF BRITISH COLUMBIA IN FIVE WEEKS

My (incredibly poor) understanding of BC politics is the people calling themselves the Liberals (only in BC, not in natl Canadian politics) are in fact the Conservatives. So 1) that there is another party that is bothering to call itself Conservative, and 2) that they won, seems really bad.

Holy shit. I did not imagine this story could get worse.

They somehow tracked Acton’s birth mom down, found her living in a car with her cats, in a church parking lot, and took her to a video shoot to make vague accusations about her daughter, who she hadn’t seen in 40+ years, being a liar. Borders on elder abuse.

Yes, but it's also butt naked.

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

This is the context that I was wishing the news reports had had, re the stolen ballots.

King County Elections@elections.kingcounty.gov

You may have heard about some undelivered ballots that were recently found in a dumpster. Here’s a thread of what you need to know.

Reading a screed against Blackstone by a well known AI critic, in which he makes it clear that housing breaks everyone's brain. They owned 82k homes at one point! Such a big number that they were responsible for making the housing market shitty! I mean, it's not like we can just make more houses!

Is it evil to buy a property and jack up the rent a lot? Yeah, I think that's moderately evil. Is jacking up the rent more evil than working hard to make sure we don't build new housing, so that renters have no market power, no options to go anywhere else? Not in my opinion.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

My possibly misinformed take: The lefty cheat sheet is IMO pretty cool! Useful, helps w/issue of going to only one source. To me, design screams "claude" but while that's relevant to lots of conversations, it isn't to the question of utility.

I guess it probably doesn't matter that much who made it, until you notice all the political info out there that nobody will attach their name to. Nobody being proud enough of it to say "yep, that's me!" makes me wonder why. Which would occupy my brain for like 2 minutes...

I know the supposed appeal of vibe coding tools is that anyone can do it. In my experience, that's more hopeful than borne out by reality. Thus, I expect someone with software experience is behind it. Kind of wish I'd thought of it! If it were me, I'd be saying "yep, that's me!"

In line for the self-checkout - of ~20 units, only 10 open. Some dumbass in line starts yelling at a checker to open more, she couldn't, he was SO MAD, and I wanted to yell at him "this is a union shop, there's obviously contract language about how many machines can be open at this time of day."
