gov uk "one login" is turning into somewhat of a "none or two logins" for me since it doesn't seem to compute that all UK agencies have chosen to transliterate my name differently πŸ₯²

quality of life feature in @expo.dev 55, iOS dev builds using expo-dev-client will discover devservers on the local network automatically βœ¨πŸ“‘ qr codes are finally fully optional now πŸ˜„

bit of a funny blunder to do a big, transparent & comprehensive ToS change + notification to then accidentally write that you have to be 18 to use Zed implying the software when you meant (as per the terms) the service/subscription πŸ˜…

small detail in Expo SDK 55 (beta) 🧹 the startup output will reduce itself in short terminal windows, and smaller QR codes render in terminal apps that support it

some more context... 1. this currently powers internal APIs in EAS Hosting and Launch at @expo.dev 2. might move this to the Expo GH org in the future, TBD 3. It's a smol API with some added utils so not a full node-tar/tar-fs replacement but a place for us to put general stream format code

4. the repo isn't quite complete in terms of tests/benchmarks, but I ran it in some other libs benchmarks and it's relatively fast 5. yes, this isn't a novel library or new idea, but just something we'd like to own since the need for these formats exist in almost all parts of Expo

we got 1000+ submissions, and I looked at ~600 submissions and hand tested well over 100 apps over the past few days, as just one of our reviewers. congratulations to the nominees & your apps! πŸ’―πŸŽ‰

πŸ† After a week of research and hours of passionate debate we have trimmed 1,200 apps down to 6 nominees for each of the App Award categories. If you are looking for inspiration to elevate your app, you can find it here: expo.dev/awards Congrats to all the nominees!

and thank you to all that submitted! you didn't make it easy to pick our nominees, and we appreciate all of you! we're hoping to get a list of honorable mentions, apps on the horizon, shout-outs, and apps that also stole our hearts compiled by the end of the awards ❀️‍πŸ”₯

The iOS queue times for Free plan users on @expo.dev were around 4 hours at this time last week. We increased our Mac capacity today. We're seeing <10 min queue times right now. ⚑ Subscribers are seeing 0 min queue times.

if car mechanics got calls that were like github issues, they'd often hear β€œmy 2012 VW Golf doesn't turn on” without the car in question ever being dropped off at their garage

first weekend in the @expo.dev 54 cycle! We released some fixes ahead of the weekend, that we didn't catch in time πŸͺ© 1. RCTNewArchEnabled (new) wasn't set consistently failing old arch builds on iOS 2. liquid glass effect for child views missing 3. @expo/metro-runtime not autoinstalled as intended

4. babel hermes syntax not up-to-date 5. non-loose transform of ESM namespace imports also shout out to @samuel.bsky.team for supporting us in catching & fixing the old-arch build regression. The Bluesky x SDK 54 future is alive and well! πŸ’―

there's also an experiment that allows you to auto-resolve issues with duplicate native module dependencies or hoisting conflicts (monorepos rejoice!) ✨ flip one flag, and Expo Autolinking also applies its autolinking decisions to Expo's metro bundling

Autolinking will also work much more like "what you see is what you get" with transitive linking for RN modules, better duplicate detection, better hoisting conflict detection, etc this also means we can safely expand our official package manager support!

Expo Autolinking is more transparent and consistent now. Both expo-doctor and the expo-modules-autolinking verify command can now consistently highlight issues with duplicate dependencies πŸ‘€πŸ•΅οΈ (the screenshot here shows the output that Bluesky gets for debugging, for example)

a lot of implicit deps chains are fixed. One example, if something else depends on Metro that won't break Expo in any case anymore (Pictured: @expo/metro-config's deps graph. And yes, we're also working on reducing deps continuously, more news on that soon)

we also fixed some trickier edge cases, for example: - the fallback resolver means some implicit shared deps are automatically fixed up in our Metro builds (e.g. expo-asset) - a new "supervisor worker" makes sure custom transformers can't break deps chains either github.com/expo/expo/bl...

reminder (because this truly annoys me): peer dependency resolution is pretty broken with severe bugs in *every* package manager, except pnpm. Yes, really
