Allowing one unelected man to have control over crucial aspects of the US military, allied militaries, the US space program, and so many other aspects of human life is absolutely insane. We were stupid to allow this to happen and it must be fixed ASAP.

you hear no news; read no gazettes; extras with startling accounts of commonplaces never delude you into unnecessary excitements; you hear of no domestic afflictions; bankrupt securities; fall of stocks

i experimented today w/ using jev to jam, but i think i really need to rethink my approach. it's really cool, but the naive approach which is "figure out which chord to play and then play it right away" definitely does not work with a 100ms delay

if i have more time later, i might experiment with having it try to anticipate what will happen at the start of the next measure, based on history. might work! who knows!

I've been thinking a lot about why video conferencing—particularly Zoom—is terrible for conversation. When I speak with people in person or on the phone, we don't ever talk over each other. It's much easier to read cues about when to speak. But in videoconf, we are always colliding.

Is it even possible to reduce latency to an acceptable level when you must sync to video? Is it even possible to do it over our IP networks?

I love that this sounds kinda like a Paul Simon song

I think this is because of latency. There's a longer time between when I start speaking and you start hearing it and v/v. So it means we both think the coast is clear and start talking at the same moment.

I remembered learning in college that Bell and AT&T made intentional tradeoffs between audio quality and latency for exactly this reason, but I don't think it's something that the product managers at Zoom or Google think about.

Driving in L.A. makes me wish that I had a second, secret, horn that I could use to honk at people behind me.

look its simple: if roger rabbit is exonerated the toons gain control of the acme corporation leading to "coyote vs acme". if roger rabbit is convicted, humans retain control as seen in "looney tunes: back in action". if marvin acme is never killed then chip and dale rescue rangers (2022) happens

I think about Godard's ALPHAVILLE often. Much more often, lately. A movie that certainly was of its time, but also 60 years ahead of it.

I asked a driver how they service them since they’re no longer made. He said they have a guy they go to for all the software updates and all that. Even though, it has many missing typical car elements. (Like cruise control or power windows even I believe).

I can't speak to the traditional beliefs about it, but I can say that it's a neat reminder of how our brains use context cues like shadows to ground objects in reality. When we experience a moment that doesn't fit our mental model, we 'glitch out' & well... "the sun rests on the brains" FITS.
