Trademark threat letters (which these days mostly come from “brand protection” agencies, not actual lawyers) rarely acknowledge things like “fair use” and “reasonable consumers” and “reality”.
their trademark complaints are utterly frivolous and should be sanctionable. Trademark law does not prevent people from talking about things and referring to them by name, and trademark lawyer threat letters are some of the most dishonest pieces of legal writing you'll ever see

As recently as last month, the Alt National Park Service was amplifying election misinformation. For god's sake, don't trust them. They're just click farmers.
Extremely interesting piece from @cip.uw.edu at the University of Washington. Long story short, they identify the Alt National Park Service as a key amplifier of conspiratorial misinformation about a "mail dumping" news story last month.

Canon is not a social construct; it exists due to Japanese corporate law. Many IP owners mess with Canon. Much of the audience has in fact rejected Canon, they prefer Sony.
Some thoughts on the concept of canon. Probably gonna piss off everyone, LOL, but why not. 1: Canon is a social construct; it exists only by consent of the audience. 2: The IP owner gets to mess with canon; its their IP. 3: The audience can, jointly or individually, reject canon. Han shot first.

Are we gonna do this, Bluesky? Are we all just gonna not understand accounting? 72B$ of the 80B$ is convertible notes. They became greater liabilities because the company's valuation skyrocketed. They don't have an 80B$ loss in the sense that almost everyone here is imagining.
Anthropic logged net loss of over $80 billion in first half of 2026, WSJ reports reut.rs/4z2Zi9J

Maybe this’ll slow down the daily spate of Russian takedown/“we are adding this site to the register of banned sites” notices targeting VPN addons I get. … prolly not tho.
Total chaos in Russian cities after Ukraine's strikes on just two Yandex data centers wipes out GPS, payment systems, taxi apps and the largest websites, across the country. Russia's centralized North Korean style internet is the country's weakness, they are fucked.

open source and open data as an ethos is largely anti capital and anti authority and is inherently political in ways we need more of
My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.

Ok — I've seen enough. #WSocial is the politics of Elon Musk meets the accountability of Mark Zuckerberg.
Dear friends who don't speak German: Go to YouTube ASAP, turn on subtitles → autogenerated translation and watch this video! TL;DR: #WSocial is posting legal names, nationalities and approx. birthdays of verified users as a public record on the Atmosphere. Confronted, they claim it's "by design" 🤯

If we moved to a house of the same value as the one we have today, financing the same exact amount, our mortgage payments would nearly double, so yeah, I don’t have a lot of incentive to give that up.
What a chart from LPL: “.. the widening gap between prevailing mortgage rates and the effective rates existing homeowners are paying .. Many owners are sitting on cheap loans and have little incentive to give them up. That lock-in effect keeps the resale market starved of inventory ..”

I do think this should put some of the hand-wringing over the uniquely sinful American electorate, uniquely feckless institutions, etc in perspective. The truth is that there is a large trans-national constituency of people who actively want this. They aren’t deceived. They want this.
On the one hand, it’s comforting to know that Americans aren’t uniquely stupid, voters everywhere have skulls filled with mush and worms. On the other hand, global fascism is probably not an ideal state of affairs.

This is about what I expected the UN thing would turn out to be - not a hack so much as weird attempts to access public data using the available tools, which don’t work with the public data access mechanism.
The agents could apparently only send GET requests, but the UN endpoint they wanted only accepted POSTs. They routed POSTs through a third-party scanning service, and they also used a URL-encoding trick that got the server to answer GETs it was supposed to reject. swarmcha.se/posts/openai...
