Leave them be! 🍂🐭 At this time of year, wildlife is making use of fallen leaves to shelter, find food, and make cosy hibernation chambers to prep for the long winter ahead. If you must clear leaves, move them to one side rather than remove them completely. 📷Yellow Necked Mouse © Alan Price

Woke up at 6.30am (bladder, obvs), far too early to be awake on a cold rainy Saturday, so tried to get back to sleep using the counting backwards trick. Next thing I know it's 11.30 - I can't remember when I slept that much. So I put my clocks back early to have the extra hour where I can enjoy it.

The other good thing about putting the clocks back now is that I won't need to do it tomorrow when I'm mildly hungover and confused as to what time/day it actually is. #ClocksGoingBack

Our Autumn Arrival Spotlight is on the Whooper Swan. These elegant swans fly in from Iceland, their trumpet-like calls echoing across UK wetlands as they gather for winter.

All the worms at the park start slithering towards me at the same time. I shake my head. They stop. I'm on a first date, and she's not ready to know about that part of my life yet.

Give me library ghosts. Give me a chorus of discarnate tutting, reproachful coughs. Give me spirits which observe the Dewey Decimal System, returning misplaced books to their appropriate places on the shelves. Give me well-read spectres who whisper with references. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

Great news for nature! 🎉 Today’s announcements by the Prime Minister at the first Wildfire Resilience Summit announcing £25m for peatland restoration is a positive step forward. This investment will mean that the critical & vital work restoring these natural landscapes can continue.

Still can't get over how cool this is. The Donaldson Futuro House in Idyllwild, California, USA, is probably the best Futuro out there, as well as a listed property, and up for sale. That interior is so clever and stylish, as well as practical. bit.ly/4sjyOy0

Great news for nature! The Scottish Government has refused plans for a golf course on Coul Links that would have irreparably damaged this precious place.  Thank you to the tens of thousands of you who spoke up to save Coul Links. Your voices made a difference.

I hope everyone is battening down the hatches and securing your bin lids in advance of #StormAusten. The last time we had high winds, my recycling bin flipped over and the contents were spread around my back garden. Still finding the occasional empty houmous tub in the shrubbery.
