I'm not 100% sure but I just listened to sdr-podcast.com/episodes/all... from @sdr-podcast.com and I want to believe this post was indirectly mentioned towards the end.

sdr-podcast.comAll you need is three iPhonesjust not in the foot Amos shares the audio, video, and lighting equipment they use (past and present!) to produce the videos on the fasterthanlime channel. It turns out you can save a lot of money by ...

Have been listening to an old podcast with @jamesmunns.com and @bcantrill.bsky.social and it is hilarious because they are basically just taking turns getting super excited about rust and safety to the point that they are accidentally screaming at each other.

Data compression is such an underrated topic and I think you should all learn about it. I cannot understate this. It is connected to more than you could possibly imagine, and it is now my favorite tech subject.

lol somebody actually did it @danielmangum.com

๐Ÿšจcheck your YAML for references to ghrc dot io (misspelling of GitHub Container Registry). Someone is running a container registry on it, apparently ๐Ÿšจ www.linkedin.com/posts/activi...

This post is so very good that I'm kinda mad. Very on-brand. Brad and Russ were already heroes of mine. I am still somehow surprised by the effort and absurdity of it all. Wow. Also I will be stealing the name "goonzeep" for a future project please nobody take this from me.

Remember the death march to add Google+ integrations into every Google product no matter what and how well that ended for everyone? Loving the gemini button on every single surface of gmail. Great job everyone.

There is so much to gzip. It's a perfect microcosm of the experience of Computering. Fractally complex and clever. Hamstrung by the limitations of computers at the time it was invented. Dramatic, backstabby origin story. Completely unused extension points. Both prescient and myopic in its design.

Silly posting this via my magic wireless rectangle that contains a billion miracles made of magic sand. I wonder what it is about me that made me so ensorcelled by gzip and not something else.

I don't have any conclusion here but I guess this is why we talk about being T-shaped. There really isn't enough time to go super deep on everything. I wish I had the time to be Cthulu-shaped instead but I am a very probably stuck on gzip for the foreseeable future.

Sometimes I am overwhelmed with existential dread because I accidentally looked inside this box and found an infinitely interesting little gadget. How many other boxes of infinite complexity did I ignore because I assumed they weren't interesting? It is unfair how little time we get to explore.

At the same time it's kind of beautiful. I imagine that every mundane experience that I take for granted daily is the product of an auteur's obsession with their own little corner of our reality. Every interaction with this world is the sum of a thousand tiny miracles we have achieved together.

You could frame an entire Computer Science curriculum around gzip. You could produce a pretty compelling dramatic film about its history. You could spend an entire (productive) career tinkering with gzip encoders.

It should be illegal for wells fargo to call me and leave a message pretending something important has happened to get me to call them back so that they can try to sell me services. I used all my "make a phone call" emotional budget this quarter on that because I assumed something bad happened :(

Hey @steren.fr long time listener first time caller. I am using GCS volume mounts on Cloud Run and see a warning: > DirectPath is misconfigured. Please set the EnableDirectPath option along with the EnableDirectPathXds option. If y'all fixed that would things go faster? ๐Ÿ™

I have a strong urge to organize all the source material (mostly blog posts) for opinions I hold because it would be easier to short-circuit discussions by just pointing to them directly instead of paraphrasing a bunch of them poorly but I'm worried that this would be off putting. Is this normal?

Like, instead I just slowly leak them to people I like when the context is appropriate so that I can incept them into agreeing with me on everything (or learn that they disagree so I can cut my losses) which feels more like what you are supposed to do but it feels really inefficient.

I just feel like so many technical discussions end up being everyone talking past each other because we have all been individually traumatized by various technologies and we don't have a shared set of experiences. I want a list of Canonical Opinions like other industries.

Today I suggested that we serve HTML over HTTP for our website frontend instead of using React and everyone laughed because they thought I was doing a bit. The frontend situation is so dire.

I wish there was something like a named pipe that allowed for random access (lseek and/or pread) instead of only FIFO without having to go all the way to FUSE. Is this a thing?

This will not surprise anyone but my enthusiasm for gzip is at an all time high since looking at github.com/mxmlnkn/rapi... It is so ridiculously clever. I am jealous that I did not come up with this myself. tl;dr speculatively decompressing anything that looks like DEFLATE goes brrrrrrrr

I have suddenly acquired many followers who seem like actual, real people, but I am an obscure container nerd. How did y'all find me? Am I on some kind of list or is bluesky just growing that rapidly?

Last December, @awsteele.com completely ruined me. I have been unable to think about anything but gzip for over 5 months now. I am sitting here reading research papers about novel gzip methods, wondering how it got to this point. I have never been nerd-sniped this hard in my entire life. God why.

You are up to date.
