Yes, that one. British by birth, Australian by choice. Saying things; around the place. On the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. He/him.

Simultaneously, the fact that all platforms learned from the 4o disaster is a good sign of the underlying technology's viability, and the fact that OpenAI kept pushing 4o to addicts for premium prices after this was all known should on its own be enough to get the company utterly Sackler-ed
more context: gpt-4o users raised a shitstorm last year after OpenAI replaced 4o with gpt-5, b/c they thought v5 was less friendly. The lawsuit says the victim thought that too: she was on chatgpt's $200/month plan and deliberately switched back to the 4o model schenklawfirm.com/wp-content/u...
I think the movies - well, Grail and Brian - have survived longer in public consciousness (definitely met reasonable numbers of Zoomers who know them, not sure if that's persisted into Alphas), but the TV show is pretty much forgotten.
Bah. Try saying "My hovercraft is full of eels" in a comical foreign accent to kids today and they just stare at you blankly. I suppose it was to be expected. No doubt my grandad felt the same way back in the day when he would frequently bellow "CAN I DO YOU NOW SIR?" at me.

Tangent here, but something I've often wondered about HP is that we know the British Minister for Magic regularly meets with and briefs the British PM. And we find out in Book 4 (canonically 1994) that Bulgaria also has a Minister for Magic. So did Bulgarian Ministers report to Zhivkov before 1989?

The number of times I've seen calling an unnecessary early election backfire at this point has gotten me all
1. Call an early election because the opposition is in chaos 2. Early election causes opposition to stop being in chaos 3. Polls move against you 4. Oh. *Really* against you (Conservatives will be majority government). 5. Resign

Extremely funny to go "I can't believe the Poles didn't insitute reforms that would have upset Moscow" with a header image of What Happens When You Upset Moscow
In October 1956, a protest movement in Poland brought a reform-minded communist leadership to power. Unlike Hungary, Poland managed to avoid Soviet intervention, but the opportunity to democratize its political and economic structures was missed.

Truly pathetic, absolutely Trump levels of baseless whinging from a position of power (which pretty much sums up modern China and its apologists from a cultural perspective, brillant though much of its tech is) www.bbc.com/news/article...
I don't love the way that I remember (both from visiting and reading about it in the papers) when these ancient neolithic escalators were installed
Angel Tube station will be exit-only on weekends and bank holidays from 2 January 2027 until further notice. TfL aims to extend the life of its ageing escalators while exploring replacement options. Weekday services will remain unchanged, with alternative stations available nearby. Read more ⤵️

WHO WOULD WIN objectively best living conditions in human history VS. "i have to see transgenders on twitter :("
Dawg we are talking about 1966, no American white working man was suddenly getting left high and dry by deindustrialization or austerity or recession The only “radical shift in the material conditions” was “you have to let black people into your school/office/shop/apartment block now”

i think. like ok if i ever fucked up so bad my eighth grade teacher posted up on a street corner to literally picket my behavior. i mean i would simply kill myself like that’s all there is to it
You have to really, really, really fucking suck for your 8th grade teacher to come out and shame you like this. Damn.
I seriously think that if you view paying tax at 47% on marginal income as anything other than an extremely modest contribution to pay in exchange for getting to live in a decent society, then you are morally subhuman and the world would be better off without you www.mediaweek.com.au/ruby-tuesday...

Everybody in the replies is rightfully pointing to algebra and so on but also an Arab scientist won the Nobel Prize one year ago.
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

i don't think it's that crazy it's a lot harder to use public money to build a complicated interconnected grid of rail infrastructure than it is to use private money to build a bunch of big warehouses. like i don't think it's great only one of those is possible but what i do not think it is is crazy

Am somewhat charmed by the implicit suggestion that, in 1939, we could have turned round to the Nazis and said listen here chaps, why don't you just accept not being in power anymore, and we'll slice Germany up into 4 divided between the UK, US, France and the USSR. Sound like a deal

The Hard Hat Riot is the single most important and consequential independently organized labor action in post-Gilded Age American history but the entire left-of-center has deliberately chosen to completely forget it because of how utterly embarrassing it is to us

I don't think this is at all a good investment at the price it will go for (not investment advice etc), but the last couple of quarters of revenue and positive non-training cashflow have now been both sustained and independently verified. Will be interested to see EdZ's cope

Obviously VCS are literal Vogons; the things that really get me here are 1) real companies who will be brand damaged by this bullshit don't put a "don't embarrass us" clause into their contracts 2) what on earth captured bullshit is the Independent Appeals Service www.theguardian.com/money/2026/o...
