In a little-noticed webpage update, the Environmental Protection Agency has announced a plan to decommission its online web archive at the end of the year, a move that would wipe tens of thousands of publicly available environmental resources from the web.

This. And if most Americans weren't aware of this in 2019, I'd guess they're even less so now. Public university students were paying for a third of the cost of their education in 2009, and it was up to half by 2019. 2009 wasn't great compared to the 60s-70s, either. www.pbs.org/newshour/edu...

Trump's attack on free and fair midterm elections that should be familiar to anyone who has lived through the Trump era: The severity of his threat to democracy is matched only by his pure absurdity.

This earlier quote post of mine is leading me to find so many academics, and we're all into niche things (like @design-law.bsky.social's interest in design patents)! People say we're budding Machiavellis and most of us are just Marge trying to convince our students potatoes are neat.

A single billionaire megadonor is propping up the Republican effort to stop Dems from flipping Pennsylvania’s Senate and gaining full control of government—to a much greater degree than Elon Musk is doing it at the federal level
Via @stephenjcaruso.bsky.social, who really should post here more than there, I'm counting $8.52M from Jeffrey Yass to try to preserve a GOP state senate majority in PA (candidate giving, SRCC, and State GOP) and another $1.1M to stanch the bleeding in the state house, where Dems lead 103-100.

But then the refs decide Because a helmet came off, there is a 10 seocond-runoff, so the half is over,. going to overtime. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS BYU WHO RIPPED THE HELMET OFF THE KID. BYU, in other words, avoided letting UCF take a final shot by committing an obvious, dangerous personal foul.

The soaring costs of public universities is a political decision. When these schools predominantly served white students, they tended to be free (UC, CCNY, etc.) But as the number of students of color has increased, funding for the public universities has decreased. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/b...

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.
