Come for the headline humor, stay for the mushroom puns.

Why is this student so upset about the mushroom, though? What could it have done to make her protest across the whole continent

Only now hearing about Andy Bey. The first time I heard his voice I was completely arrested. I remember I had to stop what I was doing and figure out who it was. Still gives me goosebumps. Thank you, Andy. #jazzsky #jazzgreats www.nytimes.com/2025/04/29/a...

One core, shared value I see across the political spectrum is FAIRNESS. Americans are obsessed with fairness, imho. Just ask any sports fan. Hell, even toddlers are obsessed with fairness, as any caregiver can tell you.

But fairness — aka “equity” — is in the eye of the beholder. Without a shared story of context, history and the “rules of play,” how can we ever agree on what is fair or equitable? How do we create that shared story?

We actually have data on the huge economic costs of crime to victims. But are we using it to inform policy?

John Roman@johnkroman.bsky.social

When we talk about crime trends, it is easy to get lost in the numbers and forget the people involved. One way to humanize trend data is to translate it into measures of the harm experienced by crime victims. Here is a little on how that works. www.norc.org/research/lib...
