Ya got trouble, right here in River City.
1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health

man they really didn't give a shit about that guy. as soon as it was clear they couldn't use his death to launch a purge they started to treat it like a nothingburger
Q: My condolences on the loss of your friend Charlie Kirk. How are you holding up? TRUMP: I think very good. And by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they've been trying to get for about 150 years.

When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine," That's... usually not the case! In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using. We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that? youtu.be/vKDPast9WFk

It has been wild to see what were always the two most paranoid pro-Second Amendment scenarios—the government snatching people away and sending occupying armies into communities—literally happen this year, to the delight of conservatives
There can’t be any gun restrictions because we have to protect against federal government tyranny, and if kids get shot we just have to live with it. Also the President can send troops to cities because the federal government can do whatever it wants. These two ideas are consistent and reasonable.

This is literally the dumbest darkest timeline.
So Rufo's article is based on the claim that Mamdani got 2140, an "89th percentile" score, below the median for acceptance to Columbia. 2140 out of 2400 is 89%. That's not how SAT percentiles work. A 2140 is a 97% percentile score for that year. This man runs a college in my hometown.

I don't mean to sound hysterical but there are some pretty clear historical examples of "force the urban-dwellers to the farms," and none of them are great.
Brooke Rollins on farm laborers: "There will be no amnesty. The mass deportations continue, but in a strategic way. And we move the workforce toward automation and 100% American participation, which with 34 million able-bodied on Medicaid we should be able to do fairly quickly."

It isn't the content that's the problem. It's the way that center and left discourse is stuck behind paywalls while rightwing discourse is pushed out free, bankrolled by billionaires, and distributed like wildfire across social networks. We aren't failing at ideas, we're failing at spreading them.
The Democratic Party doesn't need its own Joe Rogan. They need a vision for the future that actually addresses the existential crises of the moment and they need to get comfortable with being criticized for how monumentally they've screwed up. jaredyatessexton.substack.com/p/the-whole-...
