I've finally finished and released Wiggler Wilds, my latest Mario Kart 8 Deluxe custom track. Although its layout is relatively simple, it is nonetheless one of the most complex mods I've ever made due to the inclusion of numerous semi-custom track gimmicks and visual details.

this sucks, shouldn't be happening, and is going to impact the type of games that are market viable that said, if you aren't thinking abt games as media right now, you better start, bc the context/canon/critical theory that drives media discourse is going to be /the thing/ that sets your game apart

maybe part of the problem with education right now is that getting an education is objectively the least important part of getting educated, and in fact if you DO want to get educated instead of just memorizing test-facts you are actively antagonized by software, bureaucracy, and most college staff

every time i talk to someone who's in college i'm like, oh, it's less of a "literacy crisis" than it is a "literally every online system required for getting a higher education is garbage bloatware designed only to collect a fat paycheck from universities, protect copyright, and steal data" crisis

i still find static recomps of games uninteresting because compared to a decomp project, we aren't really learning much about the game that's the part i find most interesting about decomps; they're the closest we can get in most cases to actual source code that can be easily modified and studied
