After 5 weeks of #NFL action, here are the offensive formation tendencies for each team. - The Raiders use 11 personnel on only 17% of snaps, by far the least in the league, and 12 personnel is their base set. The Bengals are the only other team that uses 12 more than 11.

- The 49ers (33%), Chargers (29%) and Dolphins (27%) play 21 personnel far more than the league average of 6.5%. - The Rams (30%), Bills (29%) and Cardinals (24%) use three tight ends more than anyone else. - The Giants (19%) and Raiders (17%) lead the league in 22 personnel.

BIG NEW BRUNS WICK

however the election shakes out, a minor lesson of 2026 is that maine is basically an alien planet where everyone is a grumpy old salt retiree at birth and we should consider giving them to canada as an apology and goodwill gesture for what we did to the Expos

When Duverger's law doesn't apply to a FPTP election, this is what you get. - 13.4% of the popular vote nets you a grand total of 0 seats. - 12.4% of the popular vote nets you a grand total of 9 seats. Seems super democratic to me.

This concept of a "self-made billionaire" sounds great in theory. It sounds like all you have to do is work really hard and *check notes* have your ancestors benefit from slave labor and inherit generational wealth.

336 BC "Above all, we are free men, and they are slaves" 633 AD "Milk the Persians, and when the milk runs dry, suck their blood" 1219 AD "If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you" 2026 AD "A whole civilization will die" Good luck with that.

First they came for the Democratic norms, the rule of law, election integrity, peaceful transition of power, separation of church and state, health care, social programs, international aid, free speech & immigrants and I did not speak out. Then they came for the gas prices, and I lost my shit.

The Trump-Patel-Team USA men's hockey lovefest personifies toxic masculinity. @edgeofsports.bsky.social & I wrote about it for @thenation.com & how the real Olympic heroes are the athletes who won’t—as the right-wing noise machine often blares—“shut up and skate” www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Disgusting display by the US men's hockey team as they laugh along with a violent misogynist as he mocks the women's team. No solidarity among Olympians with these guys.

-- WEEK 16 #NFL 🏈 Seeding Probabilities -- For many teams, it is practically certain that they will play in the playoffs. This makes the question of possible seeds more interesting. The following table shows seed probabilities based on 50k simulations of the remaining season.

Spoiler for an upcoming piece. I often hear people dismissing Canada's housing crisis by saying, "Mike, home prices skyrocketed everywhere, it's not just a Canada thing". Turns out... nope. It really is a Canada thing.

Toronto sports since 1968: Blue Jays won 2 World Series (and another appearance) Toronto FC won MLS Cup (and another appearance) Raptors won a NBA Championship Maple Leafs

Feel free to disregard any mock draft that doesn't have the Browns drafting at least one offensive lineman with one of their 3 first and second round picks (all currently projected in the top 38).

I can't wait for the Saudi-funded Netflix stream of this populist heavyweight cage match.

The premier of Canada’s most powerful province — and arguably the country’s most successful politician today — has gotten under Donald Trump’s skin again.

Toronto simply does not want to solve the housing crisis.

After TO Council passed a motion indicating the City was open to Alternative Solution Proposals for a single stair in apts up to 4 storeys, I applied for a single stair in a 3 storey Part 9 6plex. I’m told it’s the first one, so it’s a test case. Here’s how it’s going. #singlestair #sixplex

Super thrilled to be back.

G Elliott Morris@gelliottmorris.com

A new report from Bright Line Watch finds experts now rate the U.S. as a "mixed" or "illiberal" democracy. The rating is dragged down by Trump's attacks on institutions, a weak legislature, political violence, and partisan gerrymandering www.gelliottmorris.com/p/experts-no...

always kind of mystified by people who say stuff like “I don’t want to vote when it feels like a choice between stubbing your toe and getting shot” as though that’s a challenging dilemma

G Elliott Morris@gelliottmorris.com

The flattening of political conflict into "people I like" vs "everybody else" elides that the far-right option ("authoritarian nihilism") is actually materially worse for a lot of people than neoliberalism

Republicans have long cast themselves as defenders of free speech against cancel culture and the censorial impulses of the political left. But now conservatives apparently see no problem policing speech, at least when they're the ones who are offended. reason.pub/46fkP2Z
