Today is World Migratory Bird Day. Please say hello to the Pfeilstorch (‘arrow stork’). In 1822 this bird was shot in the German village of Klütz. It already had a 30-inch arrow in its neck. The arrow was made of African wood, and this bird played a pivotal role in our understanding of migration.

You know where there's wild hilly outdoors with no wind turbines? Military firing ranges. The haters will always have somewhere to go for a wander.

You can pay for gas or you can not pay for gas. If you don't pay for gas in you don't get electricity out.

Put a price cap on gas power plants. And if they protest - lock them up just as we do other protesters.

I am surprised it is possible to get a hundred members of any profession onto a stage in London and come out with a group quite as White as the BBC Symphony Orchestra is tonight.

Not only one boner part.

I always tell this one. When Napoleon died, they allegedly cut off his penis. Somehow there are six people on the planet who claim to own it. WHO DO THE OTHER DICKS BELONG TO?

Not for nothing is the Helen the unit of beauty. Usually the Milihelen, or the amount of beauty needed to launch one ship. (Though this is not without controversy, as properly you shouldn't combine metric prefixes with Troy measures.)

The attribution of a heat island is complicated. If your cooling is powered by rooftop solar PV, then all the electricity used is energy that would otherwise have heated the roof - unless it was reflected. Using a/c is no more irresponsible than painting your roof black or making it of slate.

This was an excellent read on the facts behind Europe’s current AC situation in the middle of yet another heatwave, and the actual realities being obscured by the absurd culture war and misleading claims behind it www.carbonbrief.org/eight-facts-...

Ann Widdecombe's favourite soft toy, loved and kept into adult life, was Fly Bunny, an eldritch rabbit with the compound eyes of a fly. She sent me a picture, which was nice of her. I'd like to say "this explains a lot" but it really doesn't.

After Congress passes a Sensible Calendar measure it will be commemorated on the 7th of April.

GOP hawks: "I want the US to do a military campaign against a weaker enemy whose outcome is to make China terrified to invade Taiwan" Oracle at Delphi: "sure thing boss, coming right up"

They look like they are for a chairlift, and I can't believe nobody has had this idea for dual-use infrastructure before.

honestly think the new T shaped pylons will become recognised as a British design classic. they complement the landscapes they sit in so well compared to the old steel lattice design.

I am going to continue to push back on "high skill migration" even if I am the last dead ender. The UK has a much more pressing shortage of low-skill labour than high-skill labour. We have people giving up jobs as magic circle lawyers to take care of their parents.

FOOTBALL (Palindrome) See referees idle, if dim. A deep’s too far…. A ball! A cross! I’m onside. Sure. Peek a busied art: It's open on one post. I trade: I sub a keeper. Used is no miss or call. A bar! A footspeed! A midfield! I see referees.

If I should die, think only this of me: There is some midden in the dragon's lair Forever Cappadocia. There shall be In that rich turd a richer turd interred...

It feels like the kids tv circuit in the UK maintained a vaguely blurred line between serious musician and entertainer until the mid-nineties. Who was the last pop star to have a mixed variety show (Leo Sayer?) Again something The Muppets also allowed for brilliantly

You don't need aircon if you have a heat pump in cooling mode. Roof and wall insulation keeps the heat out. Low E windows reflect the sun's infrared. MVHR heat exchanger ventilation keeps your cool in. A low-energy home is a home adapted for climate change. ps Quite smug here. The tech all works.

NEW ANALYSIS: Do renewables make electricity cheaper or more expensive? I pulled together wholesale and retail data across Europe and the US. Wholesale prices track gas exposure, not renewables share. Retail prices barely track either. Read full piece👇 janrosenow.substack.com/p/do-renewab...

Belphegor (quoth the Wiki) is the demon of Sloth, who promises marvellous inventions to create riches and save drudgery, and sows evil and dissension by redistributing wealth to the worst people. Truly a demon of our times.

Notice to all parties: if you have one decent prospect and need to fill out your list with no-hoper paper candidates, make sure to pick no-hopers with names at the end of the alphabet.
