Joe Koch

Hello, I write literary horror and surrealist trash. You can find links to all of my publications on my website, and a page devoted to free stories & audio online. I'd be immensely grateful if you'd buy my books or request them through your library to support my writing. horrorsong.blog/books/

I don't mean to alarm anyone but one of the NINE stories I've sold that have been languishing in publishing purgatory for eons might actually be coming out soon. Shocking!

sitting with this piece by Andy Battle on Penda's Fen, Walter Benjamin, and an importance of the past in the work of liberation www.bostonreview.net/articles/and...

Please help Teri out if you're able.

Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States. "In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct." Report w/ new details: democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...

A serial rapist was elected twice as President, a fact we don't reckon with nearly enough. Now one of two major political parties has been molded in his image, run for and by violent sexual abusers who hate women.

Will anyone—anyone at all—ask Trump about the rape allegations published in an official report by the House Judiciary Democrats? Or will he continue to escape accountability for his violence?

"The money was good. It was good enough. I had college debt. I was still paying off expenses from my mother’s funeral. The money was good, but it was never enough." Today on ergot.: 'Camera Operator Wanted: No Experience Necessary' by Andrew Kozma @andrewkozma.net www.ergot.press/authors/Andr...

Speaking of loose children, a Halloween story for you: pseudopod.org/2022/11/07/p...

Maps of the world used to have illustrations of deadly sea monsters, but then the sea monsters lobbied to have those illustrations removed so now you never know when they're going to get you

Had a nightmare the other night that the world was full of creatures called "Loose Children" that looked innocuous, but if they found out you hadn't filled up all your children slots (each household had seven) they'd come at you like this.

I mean this so unironically. I mean this so very sincerely.

I was really impressed by From The Belly by Emmett Nahil. Sailors on a whaling ship discover a man, alive, in the belly of a whale. Then they start to fall victim to a strange infestation.

Also, The Transitive Properties of Cheese by @robotleblanc.bsky.social. I read it months ago and still think about it at least once a week. A cheese heist in space!

Also BOUND IN FLESH: AN ANthology of Trans Body Horror edited by Lor Gislason bookshop.org/p/books/boun...

My book Smoke Season (also my fist book A Hawk In the Woods but I didn't consciously know at the time.) Also Jordy Rosenberg's Night Night Fawn which is maybe the best novel of the year by anyone of any gender. bsky.app/profile/carr...

FRIENDS: recommend some trans-authored books (including yours!) in the comments! And if you've never read a book by a trans person, browse the comments and you may find your next great read. No time like the present to stick it to the pieces of shit who think we ought neither to be seen or heard

the billionaires of our world want us to avoid empathy at all costs when it comes to other people, but they demand that we exercise empathy with their machines

Look, I will never write my fiction as if you're the customer. Forget about that. For one thing, nobody's paying me enough, and for another, more importantly, we're meeting on the page as equals in this very private, intimate endeavor of being human and being weird.

YESSSS

Our general submissions close TOMORROW! If you are a queer writer, get your exploration-themed stories and poems in by October 21 @ 11:59pm Eastern. Don't self-reject! This is a broad theme; if you aren't sure your piece fits, send it in and let us decide! Guidelines: othersidespec.com/guidelines/

DO IT

a big inspiration for that story was a poem i read about 5-6 years ago called, iirc, "The Love Song of Woodrow Derenberger." i was unable to remember the author or find it, but if anyone has a link or knows where to find it, they should let me know!

Sometimes learning how the effect was done dispels the horror and other times it makes it MUCH WORSE

Ha ha ha got a little story in this

Most of the time, they'll do it! I've ordered all sorts of small press books by assorted freaks and creeps I've found on this Web Site

My short story, 'Good Girl', about the staff of a dinosaur park trying to unionize and the weighing of the necessity of collective power against the lure of institutionally exploited sentimental attachment, is in here!

Codex Unfertho by @kiennwrites.bsky.social This was my first time reading ergodic lit. Apparently all it took for to finally get me was a lil erotic cannibalism and a lot of t4t wrongs.

Modernity is a ruin indeed

Every writer deserves a reader who gets it now & then, as a treat.

An uneasy and haunting story about the scars left by war and the way the past bleeds into the present, no matter how many pretty coats of paint you apply - Occupants by Steve Rasnic Tem. reactormag.com/occupants-st...
