sorry i need to publicly be a hater for a second but what do you mean the giant 230k+ signature save mass effect petition is only about the IP and not the devs that were laid off

I love being reminded that the audience really doesn’t give a shit about the developers. Like, forget that one of the most influential studios in our industry was just executed by its publisher, just make sure the product continues on the assembly lines!

After hearing news of BioWare's closure on Wednesday, over 75,000 Mass Effect fans have signed a petition demanding that EA put another studio in charge of the franchise or license out the IP. https://bit.ly/4siIubW

There is a special type of clickbait headline exclusive to the Oxford Mail which will say "New ranking places Oxford below [city you think sucks]" and then it'll be something from a random group/author with a list of places with the best Italian food.

I had gotten stuck on the "Unstable Compound" puzzle in Opus Magnum, totally gave up and stopped playing for a year. Pulled the game up this afternoon to solve it with the ugliest machine I've ever made.

My first crack at the final puzzle in the main campaign. Realizing that I could almost triple the efficiency with well-timed rotations (building multiple compounds at once). I totally get why the community around this game has lasted a decade, always cheaper, faster, more compressed ways to build.

The reddit page for this game keeps records on a bunch of metrics, here is the world record for fewest command cycles:

Plans have been unveiled for a network of cycle routes linking nearby towns and villages to Oxford, backed by county and city councils – and unusually, the University of Oxford. The Oxford Greenways would connect 200,000 residents to the city on traffic-free paths. oxfordclarion.uk/oxford-green...

This was a great read and a helpful reference for the future. I'm always trying to tell people that our early Christian texts' conceptualization of "the poor" is utterly patronizing.

My article "Women of the world: teaching women thinkers in pre-modern global philosophy" is available open access - it offers a syllabus on the topic with discussion of my thinking in putting it together. Hope it will prove useful! www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... #philsky #philosophy

Really shameful how little meaningful attention has been paid by Democrats and media outlets to Cuba and Trump's (Rubio's) single minded crusade to starve and potentially go to war to make it submit.

I have played The Quiet Year with friends, family, and students. Every session has been a delight and a way to bond with the people I care about!

Do you love any of the games that I have created? Whether it's Monsterhearts, Dream Askew, The Quiet Year, Going For Broke, or a deeper cut, now would be a great time to hit quote-tweet and tell your friends about it! It's been a slow month. 💕✨ store.buriedwithoutceremony.com

One terrible misunderstanding that gets taught and re-taught in theology classrooms is the idea that Augustine converted from Manicheaism to Christianity. This is not true. He converted from Manichaean Christianity to Catholic Christianity; the Manichaeans were Christian and self-identified as such.

We see *in Augustine's own writings* that Manicheans identified as Christians. Augustine's project was part of a process of boundary policing Manichean Christians from being entitled to this name and contemporary scholars (especially theologians) continuously reinscribe this.

This is why my imagination is solely occupied by the Greendale Human Being.

Imagine a normal person, just, like, in your head right now - imagine a normal person, hanging out, being normal. Now, boom, ask yourself - are they Italian? They weren't, were they. Because you don't think Italian people are normal. Racist.

I'm a Plutarch admirer and have been putting together notes about his writings on the Isle of Cronus, i.e. where the Titan is imprisoned and slumbering. The island gets mentioned multiple times by Plutarch, always described as being near Britain. haliphron.ink/2026/08/11/f...

The main scholar I cite is part of a tradition of trying to identity the actual location of the island, based on textual clues (vague enough that looser thinkers have speculated that Plutarch is describing the Americas!), but I would love to find something closer to a reception history of the idea.

We've got two thousand years of readers picking up Plutarch's dialogues on Socrates' demon and on the face of the moon, all of them stimulated by the same imaginative spark: Where does the father of Zeus sleep? How people respond to that question in different contexts is infinitely fascinating.

No hostility for this person, but I do think it is interesting and problematic that later they frame the liberal/non-extremist right vs. having a fascist right as the "only" option. I reckon someone would be correct to say...

On both sides of the pond you get responses like this to people correctly saying “hey given that liberals can’t win every election forever, we really need a non-extremist right of centre party here” because they can’t see past the ends of their noses.

"...even the liberal/non-extremist right dynamic has led to the unjust deaths of millions of humans and billions of nonhumans, so my political aim is to go beyond your false dichotomy." Someone who (reasonably) holds that stance might also say liberals "can’t see past the ends of their noses."
